Any long-time players ever started a trial/new character for fun?

I can understand the reasons behind this procedure. I do hope however when you say "forfeit all my existing characters" you mean they are put into a state of inactivity (suspended anitmation and unaccessable) while your employment with CCP lasts then returned to you upon exiting the company and NOT biomassed into oblivion never to be seen again.

I feel the same way about EVE, and MMOs more generally, that I feel about the colleges I've attended: I've never yet found one where the participants are happy with what they're getting and proud to be a member. I'm confident that if I attended Harvard, Princeton, or Yale, there would be people complaining that the school is falling apart and on its way to ultimate ruin. Unfortunately, this propensity to be negative and pessimistic seems to just be a natural part of communication for some. The same goes for work environments.
