Interested in Incursions, don't really know where to go from here...

As title states, I would be interested in running incursions.

I don't really know where to go from here, but I have an active shield tanking Tachyon Nightmare with 800+ DPS and 54,300 EHP. My SP is somewhat lackluster (10 Mil), hence the low DPS, but I can tweak the fit around a bit to add more DPS, if needed.

I'm open to using a different fit, constructive criticism, alternate learning plan, etc... I have disposable (ISK, not IRL cash4plex) income, so I could even fly an entirely different ship, if need be.

I have absolutely no skills trained in Logistics, yet, sorry. I would like to try out a few incursions as DPS before, to understand how they work, but I am not opposed to the thought of being a 'healer' or 'support'.

I would be on voice comms for sure, the only problem is that I am part of a wormhole corp and I am not going to quit the corp just to run incursions. I've done research as to what the different kinds of incursions are, and am pretty comfortable with the basics of PvE and the general EvE UI.

So if someone wants to take me under their wing, or guide me in the direction of groups that would work with me, that would be great.

Thanks,
WW

Incursion Public, try that chat channel. It list various groups and is fairly up-to-date.

I learned how to run incursions from google and grabbing a bunch of people that hated the cyno jammer. They are fairly easy once you establish a doctrine.

ATM shield doctrines are the dominate fleets in hi sec. I would suggest running a differnt ship until you are comfortable with a group. To me a nightmare is just a gank me plz ship, although they are used fairly often for incursion fleets.

As i don't run Hi sec incursions i can not give you more than this, which is pretty much all you need if you are willing to do a lilttle more research.

[Logi ships are always in high demand for any incursion fleet.]

A nightmare is an excellent ship for incursions, though you'll have to change up the fit a bit. Instead of active shields, you will have to buffer tank with focus on resists to maximize the benefits from the logistics ships. Having only flown with e-uni, I can't advise you on incursion communities, but try out a few different ones and see who you like.

Keep in mind that if a fleet does not accept you because of skills, its not necessarily an insult to you, but rather has to do with how they run sites. More expensive/higher sp fleets sacrifice tank for dps, meaning that they complete sites faster, but may have difficulty if they can't burn down rats fast enough.

Make sure to let any FC's know that it is your first time in incursions. They will need to slow down a tad to give you time to adjust.

I've found that I can only learn so much through research. I am someone who learns much faster through experience, which is why I created this thread. I've read hours worth of incursion crap on google, I still don't really know how to "start an incursion".

My skills are basically pigeon-holed into Amarr boats. I do have a bit of Caldari skills, which is why I can fly the Nightmare, but my missile skills SUCK, and plus, I've heard that missiles are terrible for Incursions, due to some DPS 'race'... I do have most relevant shield tanking skills to IV-V, although I'm not really sure what Amarr boats I could shield-tank.

The first corp I was ever in, the CEO linked me a shield-tanked Apoc he wanted me to fly .........

As I would expect. Like in every other online game imaginable, everyone wants to do "MAD DEEEEPS YO" and the support role is always open.

"Incursions, start here" thread, all you ever wanted to know and more:
https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=206859

As already said, your tank will be logistic ships, locally you just want very high resists. (80% omni is the number I heard. Depending on the fleet that can be before or after links.)

^^ I'd like to stress the 'and more' part.

That threadnaught is long; but the index post is highly useful for looking at different fits.

Just to add again:

Your tank will not be on your ship, it will be the logi flying with you.
If ships would be self-rep, you wouldnt need logi.

If you want to get involved in the dark side of incursions - ganking, awoxing and otherwise sabotaging incursions - let me know via Evemail. (Edit: Whether this interests you or not, post in this thread that you are not interested).

You've chosen a fine ship for incursions, just be sure not to fly it unless you can live with losing it. When I flew incursions it was pretty much show up- fleet up, but I heard that they got pretty elitist for a while, I hope that's not still going on, I hate the thought of noobs having to deal with that crap.

Highsec is owned by players now. Systems 0.5-1.0 are New Order Territory. All miners and other residents of Highsec must obey The Code. Mining without a permit is dangerous and harmful to the EVE community. See www.MinerBumping.com

That likely just depends on which community you fly with and then even from fleet to fleet (aka: Who is the FC).

Do you guys sell Incursion permits? Big smile

The elitist mentality doesn't bother me too much, as long as they are still willing to give people a chance. EvE is a bit different in the sense that skills you train take time, so the DPS/EHP numbers may not be there. But I'm hoping that once I can get on comms and talk to the FCs they will see the value in bringing along intelligent people, regardless of their character age.

If I was an FC I'd rather fleet up with people who know how to fly their ships over people who bought a 5 year old character from the Bazaar and have no clue about mechanics...

Although I'm getting the feeling they just want to see higher numbers over people who actually know what they are doing

e- and I can afford to lose the Nightmare, I just don't want to :)

TBH, most FC for VG [Vanguards] are not elitist in hi sec. When you move out of Empire you tend to become elitist, or rather a lot more picky due to the staggering increase in risk of running them.

E.G. If its a new person to me, i have them link their fit as well as manually scan their ship. I have had too many people link their old fits, or ones they have seen listed, but then do not actually have that fit. There is nothing more annoying as a FC or even a LC when you play the pendulum game because one person has a huge whole in their "tank".

VG's are a great way for FC's to evaluate new players as it allows them to see how well they follow tags/learn about them and other basic things like broadcast etc. while at the same time being easy enough that you messing up a few times wont whelp the fleet, just slow their isk/hr.
