Hey, I would like to seek your advice about the following fit. I largely put it together myself so it's a pretty generic ratting fit. I tried to fit it as cheaply as possible while still retaining dps and sufficient tank since I live in an entry null system and there can be significant traffic at times - which results in me warping to a pos from time to time.

However the BR EM/Therm damage proves to be a problem as I am encountering problems in anything harder than a Forsaken Hub. Since Forsaken Hubs are camped almost all the time by other people in my alliance, I am sometimes forced to do a Forlorn and that's where I just can't hold the tank without running out of capacitor in a matter of few minutes and that's without being neuted and with Nos on.

What am I doing wrong? I contemplated swapping the shield booster for an X-large one, or switching out the rigs, but the basic problem is I'm taking way too much damage - the dps is fine.

And please no "get a Nightmare" advices, I like my mach. :(

Never done those sites but you might want to armour tank instead of shield.

I thought of it, but there are some serious issues with that. Most prominent of all is that armour tanking slows down the ship - and since Mach is largely dependent on speedtanking (I scoot all over the place at 700m/s) I'm not sure about the viability of that fit.

Any ideas/personal experience anyone?

Armour tanking only slows down your ship if you fit plates and/or trimarks, neither of which you'll be using. A simple fit will almost double your tanking towards BR compared to your overly blingy shield fit and because it frees up midslots you can use TC instead of having to use TE. Which means that even though you'll be fitting less gyros your dps at ranges, which is where you'll be, will be better.

Again, no idea what kind tank numbers should should be having in those sites but a simple comparison to the fit you linked and a generic armour fit massively favours armour.

Drop a gyro and 3 tracking enhancers and fit a B-type repper and 3 b-type hardeners and you will have a much stronger tank.

Since Capacitor seems to be your problem change the pith a type booster to a gist and change the rigs to capacitor control circuits. If that doesn't work change the gist booster amp to a pith and upgrade the adaptive to a dread guristas or c type. Armor tanking it is unnecessary as you'll lose dps without gaining much.

Thank you, I shall try that.

The problem with BR sites is that their battleships hit hard as hell at great distances and they try to orbit you at 50km, and since I apply my dps at great distances as well, I'm taking hard hits.

I just never armour tanked a Mach before since I spent most of my time with it in Angel space until now, so the whole concept makes me uneasy. Guess I'll see. :)

Tank: repper, 2 hardeners (armor)
Gank: 4 faction gyro, burst aerator II, 3 tracking computers, FN omnitrack, 4 gardes/curators

Speed tank is not meaningful, just gank through it before the damage becomes an issue. Too common a fallacy is that a mach should speed tank just because it can. Speed tank if it brings more applied damage to the table (hint: it often won't).

it's funny how there is always some 'special' person who thinks that reality is a matter of opinion. @OP: armor tank it and be done. since the recent armor repairer buff, a-types, x-types and officer reps are almost as efficient as the best shield boosters, one more reason to go armor.

I should buy an Ishtar.

LOL with decent skills a T2 specific fit faction battleship can wreck anoms, but go ahead with this 'cheap' fit. Just remember that you'll be on my watchlist.

lol not even close.

But still go armor tank, tracking computers are way better than tracking enhancers.

Alright, thank you for the input everyone.

And for the TEST guy - yes, of course I am flying a Machariel on a 1 month old toon - put me on that watchlist!

... Lol

EDIT: And for the people telling me to sell the ship - I've recently come back to EVE after 4 years, cut me some slack..

you can fly it shield, you should just fly it with AB, booster, 2x deadspace em, 1x deadspace thermal, and if you're low sp probably a damage control too. 1x em, 1x invuln, and 1x SBA is just really suboptimal if you need to tank rats better.

If this is true then I will repeat myself, sell the ship and fly something cheaper. A propper fittet Maelstrom will do the same job, as will a well fitted Tornado for roughly 1/5 to 1/10 the cost of a Machariel.

Also, even 4 years ago the semiconductor memory cells where crap. Since they got introduced they are the worst and most useless item ingame, maybe aside from a civilian afterburner or small hull repper but thats it.

And also think about how you wanna combat Energy Neutralizers because your fitting cant.

Alright, going to necro the thread a little bit.

Thank you everyone for the input. The memory cells were a pyfa decision, I was simply looking too much at the paperstats, not enough at the practical side of things and someone actually told me to get them, however I swapped them for CCC and burst aerator.

Also that's untrue. A LOT smaller ISK per tick. I tried before, but Mael or Nado dps in anoms isn't even getting close to the dps the Mach dishes out - like I said before, I had absolutely zero problems with dps, I have over 8 million SP in gunnery, capable of solid 1100-1200 dps.
I just have issues with the tank against specific rats.

That said, now that I replaced the rubbish rigs, can anyone please help me out with few fits, one armor tanked, one shield tanked? Thanks!
