Extractor estimates and Remote Sensing skill

Greetings.

I've seen many posts about remote sensing skill and most of the posts claim that the skill is mostly useless as it only increases the range of how far away one can scan the planet.

However, what interests me is what the skill description says at the end: ...and produce properly calibrated surveys.
When moving the exctractor heads the total yield and per hour estimates show certain numbers and when I install the program the actual yield may shift up or down up to 20 % compared to the estimated numbers. This can be rather frustrating at times.

My Remote Sensing skill is now on level 3. I wonder if, according to the skill description, increasing the remote sensing skill would actually improve the accuracy of the exctractor head surveys? Any experiences on this?

That would be planetology and advanced planetology skills.

Well, those skills are only described to increase the scanning resolution i.e. the accuracy of the heat map, not the survey accuracy. On the other hand the survey is mentioned in remote sensing skill description.

My planetology is on level 4 and advanced planetology on level 3. It doesn't seem right that on those levels the survey estimate accuracy could sway up to 20 % to either direction.

(Adv.) Planetology is for getting the heatmaps right (or at least close thereto).

Remote sensing is only to allow you to scan farther out ... (1 LY @ L1, +2 LY/Level thereafter, IIRC)

... granted it's been aged since I've actually looked at the skills (i.e. before last patch) ... so they may have changed things up...Roll

Dude, it is indeed Planetology and Adv. Planetology.

I had both of mine at 4 for years, and finally went to 5 recently, and the difference was honestly astonishing.

Remote Sensing only has to do with the max distance of planets you can observe. It's about the "ability to gather and analyze remote sensing data from satellites in orbit around a planet". In short, the ability to scan them. And that is all.

The 2nd part of the description, "and produce properly calibrated surveys", appears to be extraneous. Bear in mind that PI was released rather half-baked, and CCP has refused for years to tweak it at all. Skill descriptions are just a part of the issue.

ed: About a year after release, the fundamental mechanics of how Extractors are deployed was fundamentally changed, from having to purchase and place each extractor individually, to the current system of one Extractor producing a max of 10 heads.

The player owned POCO mechanic was introduced shortly thereafter.

That's been it for PI "fixes", unfortunately.
