Then, you didn't spare it. You MISSED it.

Bingo.

Also, do we need two threads on the same subject?

Everyone in the previous thread was uniform in their replies. I was hoping for something of interest here, and attracting a different response. You know, other than the "EVE is harsh" and the "Tears sustain me" responses.

I'm just interested in a good story. Did someone put up a particularly good fight? Was there a political reason to spare them? For example, were you possibly hoping to turn or recruit one of your captives? Does that even happen? Join us or die sort of thing? Is there anyone bent on gaining that as a reputation? I mean if one did spare them to honor a ransom, is it feasable or has anyone made a space-living that way? I remember reading one of the few magazine articles I seen about EVE once where someone had claimed they did such a thing, but that thought process seems to have disappeared from EVE.

Few people understand the psycology of a highway traffic cop. Your average speeder will panic and immediately pull over to the side. This is wrong. It arouses contempt in the cop heart. Make the bastard chase you. He will follow.

I do, because getting the ship is enough, no need to get the guy's pod too. And because my Battleclinic KB is showing a worthless T1 turret BPC loss as valued at 5bil or something. After that seeing that, I don't pay much attention to the isk value of losses on KBs, and I'm not going for somebody's Snake implants.

Usually if I see someone trapped in a wormhole in their pod asking for help in local or convo then I'll show them the way out.

If I see the pod on scan though and no request for help then I'd usually shoot them.

Well... that's not 100% honest. I'll sometimes ask them in local myself if they need help. Roll

Wormholes can be lonely. Oops

2 Reasons:

1. An old joke from years back about my having sworn an oath against podkilling (I've kept it going this long, why stop now?)

2. (The actual reason) Because I rather like the fact that I have over 600 lifetime kills, and not a one of them is a pod.

Sparing the pod in wormhole space is even funnier than killing it. You can collapse the wormholes and trap him there.

If I am in a good mood I'll sometimes I let newbies go. It also depends on how they react to their ship's death.

The guy seemed really lost and i was honestly curious what he was doing in such a rinky-dink fit gnossis dozens of jumps from home with passive targetting system In 0.0.

Apparently he got lost in a wh and finally got out in the wrong system after a run in with some very nasty rats.

Umm, good for you? I sort of expected quite of few of these types of responses, but I was hoping for something more interesting to come from a CSM.

Let me be clear. I could care less if people like podding others or not, I've just noted that its the norm. I thought it would be interesting to hear if anyone doesn't, what reasons they might have. one notes that the number is low. A lesson for new players, don't expect mercy or quarter in New Eden.

I have spared some old acquaintances on occasion as an act of courtesy. Funny character and ship names and respectful local chat can be a deciding factor, either way.

Other times I am just a mean SOB and will just keep cycling my guns regardless.

A response from the other side: my pod was recently spared because I challenged a WT to a 1v1 frigate fight and they didn't want to give me the free trip back to my med station once I lost.

Because there's more of a chance that "home" is somewhere far away as opposed to the very system you just let them go in...

Rookies get a pass (on the pod only)

As do wayward pods in WH's..... most times.

In LS, I am willing to take a sec hit for aggression, not so much for a pod kill.
