First do the tutorial and all of the career agent missions. These are intended as the extended tutorials and will give you a taste of some of your options in-game. They are not comprehensive. There are many many things to do beyond what you will learn there, but it's a place to start! They also give out cash, skillbooks, and ships to get you started. From there you can decide what you enjoy and then pursue it further.

First, welcome to Eve. You can always ask the "Help" chat tab, but in your case maybe the rookie one. Thing about Eve is that you can make money (Isk) any way you want. Piracy, mining, mission runner, what ever. I recommend doing the tutorial missions as they can tell you the basics and walk you through them.

Vanguards of justice and of freedom, the Gallente Federation shelters all who seek hope where it is difficult to find.

For new players the most common occupations are mining, missions, exploration, trading, hauling. Just to name a few, you are neither limited or restricted to these though.

Always willing to help all you have to do is ask, though if you're in the other fleet I may not help the way you want. Just a heads up. Pub Channel: Lost Souls Trading Post

Simple:

Do AURA tutorial
Go to Career Agents when directed by AURA

Do career agents (Yes, all 5 of them).

Optional - Do the SoE Epic Arc.

After that, New Player Experience ends, EVE is open to you. Grab your shovel and bucket and create sandcastles, or be the bully and destroy other people's sandcastles.

Basically, EVE is a sandbox where you can do what ever YOU desire and have fun doing. Because of this NOBODY but you yourself can tell you what you should do, as my, Cara's, Luna's, Forest's way of having fun can be completely different then yours.

EDIT:

And to give you a small idea of what is possible:

While what Forest says is true, do not fall into the trap believing that you have to do any of that.

If you like, you can PvP pretty much right away, although for that it's usually preferable that you join a newbie friendly corp that will teach you. Be it consensual PvP in something like RvB, null-sec roams, low-sec PvP or "evil" high-sec ganking, you can hop into it right away. Many PvP corps will even provide free frigates for you.

The only thing for which your low SP will be truly problematic are solo roams outside of high-sec. You might still attempt them to gain experience, but expect to lose several dozen fights until you get your first solo kill.

Basically, they are like getting your drivers license.

They can give you all the lessons on how to operate a car and eventually you will pass the exam.
But only after that you will learn how to drive properly.

It sounds like you may have come to Eve via certain other MMO's which give you a trail of breadcrumbs to follow all the way through.

Understand that EvE is a sandbox. An open unlimited universe where you decide what you want to do and make it happen.

It isn't for everyone, but if you 'get it', it is far more immersive and rewarding than just following a set path through prescripted content.

What do you like the sound of doing in New Eden?

Do the offered missions. They don't take long. Really not a chore. While running through them you get an idea how stuff works.
Really only 2-3 hours. Enjoy the game and don't get frustrated. When you feel lost, reach out and join a corp rather than emo rage quit. It's a tough game. You might as well learn a lot about people.

Best of luck!

Highlighted the ONLY and MOST IMPORTANT question you should ask yourself.

EVE doesn't offer you a cookie.

EVE beats you down, grabs your cookie and laughs in your face because you brought the cookie in the first place.

Unlike the majority of the other MMOs, it's not about the destination but more about the journey you take.

You have to create your own "content".
You have to create your own "end game".
You have to create your own "path".

As was mentioned above, do the tutorials. Do all of them. They give you a good general overview of basic EvE mechanics and the user interface. After the tutorials take a look at the Sister of EvE Epic Story Arc. Its a group of missions that is geared for new players. Google it and you will get all the info you could want on it.

Now, while your doing the Sister of EvE think about what you WANT to do in EvE. Do you want to fight? Do you want to build things? Do you want to get into null sec (player owned space)? Do you want to go into Faction Warfare? Do you want to mine minerals? Do you want to focus on getting rich via the market? There is almost an unending list of things you could do. My suggestion is to read up on EvE and figure out what intrigues you.

Take a look at this article ...

It and the twitch streams associated with it are done by a very experienced player who decided to relive the newbie experience. A couple of newbie friendly groups to take a look at are listed below.

While enjoying it 8).... I don't know how it is with others.... but I catch myself more often than not to be rather excited by the situations which can unfold in EVE. It really doesn't matter if you get blown up or not while cruising around. Space pixels.... BUT it's pretty cool that you can actually get that 'monster in the closet will come any second to get you' feeling. Brrrrrrrr 8)

I would personally save up some cash, find a fun/decent corp, fit up some pvp frigs and just have at it for a few days. If you dont like it try your hand at some other things.
