The economics of an "extra" character/training slot

I will soon have an account with two characters with "max" training for what I need them to do.

So I will have an extra character slot/training slot.

I am considering using that slot to make characters and then sell them. I realize that I will be hit with a $20 fee, but I currently pay for the game anyways.

My question is as follows: How much can you "earn" in terms of isk (and thus Plex), by selling characters.

For example, if I trained a character for 6 months, and then sold it, would I make enough ISK to pay for Plex to keep the account going for another 6 months? Would it also "cover" the $20 x-fer fee?

I think I just saw another post on this, and the general consensus was that it's more profitable to buy existing characters and fill in the gaps with more specialized training, then sell them for a profit. It was mentioned that creating new ones weren't that profitable.

I'm thinking that with 6 months though, one should have enough time to specialize new ones into something that's got decent demand, like a miner or mission runner. Not sure how long it would take to train a worthy capital pilot but I'm pretty sure it would be well over 6 months.

My GUESS is a few billion for a good miner, mission runner, manufacturer, etc. It may only be enough time to specialize nicely in one thing though, but I'm not too sure. Probably enough ISK to cover a few months of PLEX.

You can look at character appraiser and purchaser opinions about prices, e.g. look at the character bazaar, look at the skills that are trained, and watch what they sell for. Also, I believe that for the price of a PLEX, you can transfer a character (cuts into isk, but not your RL wallet).

Given the current ISK price of PLEX, if it keeps up and character prices don't follow, you're most likely going to end LOSING ISK doing that.
