if someone blows up the customs office for a planet, and it was the only one available, is that planet effectively useless until someone sets up a new one?

other then launching a container per missile instead of to a customs office, yes.

so it just shoots a cargo missile out of the planet and what, do you have to scan for it or does it land near you?

You get a bookmark in you people and places under "planetary launches"

I think you need to be able to transfer the materials to the command center though, not sure if a launchpad will do planetary launches, although I could be wrong. If that's the case, then people who move their installations around to get better spots without dropping new command centers might be kinda screwed.

Only command centers do planetary launches

Incarna - Newest business example of mismanaged capital. CCP - Continuing to gank independent PI producers every day

PvP's latest  incentive program ** Unified Inventory **  'Cause you gotta kill something after trying to use it

This is bad, very, very, very bad.

I have a feeling most people do what I do, place a command center, build your stuff, use a launch pad as buffer storage. A month later or so, tear down everything but the command center and move to better hotspots, leaving the command center halfway across the planet to avoid droping stupid amounts of money just to get better extraction areas because you have to upgrade the command center.

Now the problem with this behavior is, your stuff is stuck on the planet until another customs office is built if you are in low or null or WH space after you have one blown up.

Heh... I brought this up a while ago when the blogs first appeared... you should have seen the nubs blaming me for not keeping my PI network near the command center.

Six months in the hole... it changes a man.
