as title, the client gives us a choice of where to install the game - great.

The problem is that (and the installer doesnt tell you, or let you change this) that the download will always go to your home drive, and then require space to extract it there too.

Please please please ccp, enable a swtich to allow the download cache to be downloaded to a different location as well as install the game to a place of our choosing.

It took me some 6 hours to get around this and i ended up having to use another pc, since my home drive is a 32gig SSD designed for speed and not messing around with default installers.

one more time: pleaese.

+1. You don't want to make it unnecessarily difficult for people to install your game, do you?

because we all know the speed it takes for you to boot up and check your facebook in the morning is key....

did you ever consider telling windows to keep temp files somewhere else?
because one would assume the patcher is loading to the DEFAULT TEMP DIRECTORY and not just guessing or creating a location on its own.

but I could be wrong

+1 I have a 40gb SSD (should have got more I know) for OS and have to do a complete reinstall each expansion. Given that I have 6 accounts and about 12 playing characters, redoing the overview/settings is a royal pain.

Um.... You guys just got fancy without knowing what you were doing.

You have more than just eve to worry about.

Don't forget Programdata folder or shared for xp. Also move %temp%

you are wrong, moving the tmp locations for windows has no effect.

The download data files go to all users/ccp NOT the temp folder.

I really hate the forum eating my instructions...

If you'd like to move the "C:\ProgramData\CCP" folder (as it's used as the download cache and stuff), do the following (requires Windows Vista or Windows 7):

  • Delete the existing folder, "C:\ProgramData\CCP" (or move it to the new location to keep the contents).
  • Create the new folder you'd like the patcher to use, in my example this is "E:\Linked\CCP".
  • Open the start menu, type "cmd", right click the found entry and pick "Run as Administrator".
  • Now type the following command (including the quotes, but you might have to change the path (see above)): mklink /D "C:\ProgramData\CCP" "E:\Linked\CCP"
  • If everything went fine, you should see "C:\ProgramData\CCP" as a symbolic link (similar to a shortcut). This will work like a traditional shortcut, but programs will see it as a real folder.
  • To revert the changes, just delete the symbolic link like any other file or folder.

You can use the same neat trick to move other folders without moving everything belonging there, too. e.g. I moved my EVE Screenshots folder as well as the EVE folder under "C:\Users\..." to another drive too, to save space in "My Documents".

Which you need to move or everything will eat it up your fancy ssd space.

good job!

One of the most annoying things ever is downloading a 1+Gig patch and failing it to install ...

PLEASE change this

1.) let the installer check hdd space prior download
2.) give an option for choosing a temporary directory !

Many people have limited space on the system hdd and plenty space on other harddisks ... so please change the installer/repair.exe giving these options
