Voting is open!! I put together a fun little suggested ballot, which you can easily get to HERE.

James Arget - Veteran CSM, Wormhole Advocacy, and the Player Perspective

After almost a year on CSM 8, I've decided that I'll once again be entering the running for CSM 9. It's been a hell of year, and with many exciting changes on the horizon, I'd like to have a second term to continue the job with the added knowledge of a veteran CSM member.

My platform has remained as it was, as I feel that the principles I ran on have served me well during my current term. First and foremost, I am an advocate for w-space, encouraging CCP to work on new content, improvement, inclusion, and safeguarding. Taken one at a time:

New Content: Since the release of Apocrypha, there has been no new targeted content for wspace. There have been numerous quality of life improvements and bug fixes, but this has not been enough to keep pace with the other expansions. I’d like to see wspace get the "crimewatch" treatment, and will push for it whenever possible.

Inclusion: As a wspace player, it’s been very frustrating to watch multiple features released which improve kspace, but skip over wspace. Wherever possible, I’ll push for wspace to share the benefit of new features such as with siphons, which were updated to include polymers.

Improvement: The task of refining the systems already in place will never end. In the same theme of enhancements such as the Unified Inventory, saved passwords, and corp bookmarks, we still have XLSMA access range, the agony of the black hole effect, and deficient corp roles to bring up to the same standard as other mechanics.

Safeguarding: As EVE continues to grow and evolve, we must always be careful to avoid protect features already in place. Just within the past year we’ve had issues such as SMAs failing to drop ships, and the discovery scanner upsetting the hunter/hunted balance. We’ve reverted and expanded SMA looting, and the discovery scanner is right now under examination. At the same time, I’ve made sure that Chimeras didn’t get shield boosts they didn’t need, and HACs remained strong compared to faction cruisers.

My second major focus has been to provide the Player Perspective. I consider this to be the most important role of the CSM. There are countless media avenues for CCP and players to communicate to one another, but it is only the CSM which is under NDA to provide early feedback to CCP. A strong CSM with a diversity of expertise helps to shape ideas and plans early on the development process, leading to a better final product, sooner.

During my time I the CSM I’ve worked to act on these principles. Early on I set up www.csm8.org/blog in order to foster stronger communication with players. During the Somer of Rage, I was closely engaged with the Community team to address player concerns. I’m happy to say that along with the rest of the CSM, SMA looting was taken from backlog and brought to TQ in a better state than ever. This is the CSM I plan to continue to be, and with your support the upcoming CSM will continue to be stronger than every one previous.

And last but not least, I have been fortunate enough to get a couple of endorsements. Get out and vote!

James worked hard in CSM8 for wormholes and for the game in general. He was easy to work with and kept to his mission. When he targeted an issue he was steadfast in the pursuit of it.

He deserves another term.

James definatelly knows his stuff. He has been one of the most active people on CSM8. I fully endorse him and I would love to see him on CSM9

Since you said you weren't running at the wormhole CSM debate, I didn't ask you the questions I had prepared for you. Since you are running now, perhaps you might answer them?

1) Where the **** is your campaign thread? (Perhaps lets change this one to, "Why did you post this thread so late?")
2) What did you do during CSM 8?
3) Do you think you did a good job communicating with the w-space community?

There's been a bit of a shitstorm going on lately, so third draft managed to have some mis-spliced sentances, my apologies.

I did a bunch of little stuff during CSM8. It was less threadnaughts, more nagging, more pushing for things to go in one direction instead of another. I had several small moments talking with different CCP devs which I've seen continue on and make it in-game. Talking with Dolan during Somer, and having Blink Credit removed. Talking with Rise and seeing HACs emerge as strong cap and strong sensors, providing a real advantage over pirate cruisers. Getting some front row time with CCP Seagull and telling her straight out "last weekend a WH corp was sieged and all their assets were burned to the ground. This should have been the wspace Asakai, but it wasn't, because every SMA simply deleted the contents." At the end of that meeting, team 5-0 had SMA drops moved into their cycle, and through their outstanding efforts we now have ships drop and a record of those that don't. I'm sure I've missed other similiar things, but that's the gist of it.

I've left the community side of things mostly the Chitsa. There's several very social members of the CSM, and Chitsa has been the wspace "face" for us. The nature of the NDA is, of course, that I can't say anything to players unless CCP has announed it first, or I've been given explicit permission to. As of late, I've been seeking that permission more as you've all let me know that you want to hear things ASAP. I've been more focused on communicating the players' perspectives to CCP within the context of what CCP has planned for the future. That's the unique nature of being on the CSM, so that's where I invest my time.

Haha I managed to get started before you.

Did "the Chitsa" Big smile agree to this division of labor? Do you expect to be delegating this part of the job to someone else assuming you are re-elected (and have a 2nd w-space person to delegate to)? Do you think the Chitsa (I am totally calling him that from now on) did a good job communicating with the w-space community?

There are a lot of people who feel that all you've accomplished in your role as CSM is making sure wh space gets the same pretty space background as everywhere else in Eve. Can you tell the wormhole community what you have done to represent our interests and point of views? Obviously, I understand you can only say so much (NDA and all), but it would help clear up some misconceptions.

No trolling please

Are you kidding me? That's certainly something that I've not managed to accomplish, even though I've nagged Trilambda about it.

The only singular change I can point to and say "This is something I did, and just for wspace" would be the polymer siphons. The first round of siphons went out only affecting moon minerals, to which I told Soniclover that he was excluding most of wspace. After several appeals, he told me he'd do his best to get polymer siphons into a future point release, and sure enough they made it in to game.

With Chitsa and Ali behind me, CSM managed to get XLSMA ship drops restored, with a better mechanic than existed previously. Ali did a TMC writeup on it, as it was a model case of how the CSM can work to make changes that players really want to see: http://themittani.com/features/how-its-made-csm-and-sma-fix

More often it's going to be a matter of giving CCP input so that they can make better choices about what route to take during development. When CCP Fozzie was going over command ship and link rebalancing, I quickly pointed out that if he extended shield links to capital mods, a pulsar Chimera would be grossly overpowered. I consider the HAC class of ships to be very important to wspace due to their low-mass, high-tech nature, and so I was very active with CCP Rise when they were being rebalanced. After giving him a side-by-side of a Nexor and Ishtar, along with other player feedback, the HACs were giving another round of updates to bring them to their strong capacitor, strong sensor ship we have in game now.

During the ESS hullabaloo I was back to chatting with CCP Soniclover about the hilarity which is a wh proximity alarm. I'll be honest, I found the entire thing ******* hilarious. It was changed in 3 days if I recall correctly.

In regards to the ewar overheating changes, I cautioned Fozzie that dread blapping, which has the potential to be very strong already, could easily get out of control with overloaded tracking comps and painters. The 5% reduction on capital tracking helped to keep things tweaked to what is more or less "balanced". On that same feature, however, I received panicked evemails the day of patch exclaiming that the overtrack exploit was again possible because of the red giant effect. So, I got Fozzie on skype, and a damnation and Pilgrim into an adjacent C5, and tried it out. End result: there was a bug preventing the red giant effect from going onto overloaded ewar.. thus preventing disruptors from exceeding 100%. Bugception, and all was safe. CCP will very much be aware of one when they go to fix the other.

I think those are all fairly related to "our interests and point of views", there's been other mundane stuff and non-wspace drama such as somer as well. It's been a fairly busy year.

The Chitsa did a'ight. We never set out a negotiated "you do this, I do this", but it was a natural split, and worked well. He doesn't complain about his side of it any more than I complain about mine. If there had been any tension over it I don't think we'd be living out of the same POS as we are.

I've been getting lots of feedback from people this time around, with the general consensus being "not bad, but could still use a bit more communcation coming to us." Corbexx and Proc are both very much doing some intense outreach right now, and Proc especially has this infectious enthusiasm that's gotten me excited about running again. I won't be quite so shadow-warrior in a second term though, as being the returning member means that I should be at least side by side in addressing the community with whatever other wormholers manage to make it to the CSM, if not leading the way when it comes to letting people know how things are progressing.

TBH when I saw your edited post on FozzieGate I was a bit dismayed.

Since your candidacy is the last to come in I want to use this opportunity to ask not only you but everyone else the same question given that thread.

Regardless of your personal opinions and the opinions of loudmouth, "has been" ex-CSM wormholers bitter vets (who don't know how to turn their mic's down in podcasts or really are that loud in RL!) do you promise to actually read and promise to represent the MAJORITY views of your WH constituents even if you personally think they are bad?

Would you step down if you felt this situation compromised you? (i.e. If you absolutely felt something was wrong/right and your constituents (NDA aside assuming the cat out of the bag like the Fozzie post) didn't would you swallow it and do the right thing (represent) or follow your own agenda.

Last thing. Please PLEASE stop starting your posts and opinions with where you are going and why Like they are excuses for not giving a full answer "This post and answer is going to be a short one because I'm - having breaksfast, meeting the pope, running down a freeway naked - " ..................

I don't care what your social/geogrpahic RL situation is at the time of your posts. It's a forum not Twitter.

Surely this dig is aimed at me, but I am unsure what issue you are referring to. The entire purpose of a representative system of government is that the people you elect are your representatives, not your mouthpieces. If you don't like what we said to CCP, don't re-elect us. If you have an issue with what James (or anyone else) is saying, don't elect them.

Anyone who would "step down" because they disagreed with the supposed majority (how can you even pretend to know that the majority of players feel?) shouldn't be elected in the first place.

It sounds like you would only be satisfied with a direct democracy, good luck with that.

There is a huge difference between knowing what would be considered best by most WH players (if you don't why are you standing) and knowing what would definitely not sit well at all with the majority of players(for example your support for more ganking mechanics over difficult pvp manouvering the like of which QE and BU are doing right now which requires effort, planning and seeding instead of roll, scan, roll, scan, oooh target!).

Proactive feedback is essential and I really do question and would like to know if any of you guys in the past have actually asked CCP in the summits if there was a way of flying close to the NDA without pulling the curtains completely off the prize. In other words rewording or posing a question or series of questions to the community that is disjointed enough both in timeline and content not to paint a whole picture and run it by CCP to see if it gets approval.

If you wish to take the previous post as a dig aimed at you that is your prerogative.

I know reading is hard for you, and I do hate to leave a big mess in James' poor thread, but if you think there is *anything* in Fozzie's thread that any sort of majority agrees with, you need to spend a little more time sounding out the big words.

I have nothing but respect for what BU and QE do, but that shouldn't be the only way to catch people doing PVE. I'm sorry you don't agree with this position, but from what has been posted, both James and The Chitsa agree with me (not on all the specifics, but on the intent).

The CSM, including CSM 6 and 7 (and I expect 8 as well, but I wasn't there), pretty much always pushes for more transparency from CCP. Perhaps James can tell you if he and The Chitsa asked Fozzie to post publicly? I know I asked many, many, many times for CCP to seek player input as soon as practical. In general, CCP's concern is not usually some desire to have a big surprise for people, it is just that players have not taken well to being told CCP was working on something that ultimately doesn't get done. Perhaps you were a small portion of the community that has been burned by this in the past?

Sorry you can't read or won't read the replies. I already acknowledged that Chitsa and you and James were in agreement which was the catalyst for the question because it does not reflect the vast majority.
Yes there should be other ways of catching pve'ers in WH's but if NoHo and SSC need the crutch of a timer to give them a handicap headstart then ............ lol.
As for going personal and trying to be derogatory I'm not coming down there to that level (which is about crotch zipper height on any NoHo player for AHARM right?) so take it somewhere else.

Apologies to you James. I know you are all friends and all but if you could answer the original question yourself without the default CSMer's interference or comments that would be cool.
