As a new player (subbing just a few hours ago), it's absolutely mind boggling how unfavorable seeking help is.

Never mind how quickly questions are buried in Rookie Help, I can tolerate having to pose the question a few times until it's addressed. My concern is that apathetic approach the (moderators?) take to controlling the channel in regards to trolls and useless responses.

Case and point: I posed a question about obtaining shares in my corporation. It's owned and controlled by a real life friend who is currently unavailable for me to ask him how to go about doing it. Instead of getting an informative response, I received something to the effect of "it's a scam, they're not worth it, they're not what you think they are".

Not only was the "answer" not relevant to what I asked, but it was nothing short of an ignorant opinion line that didn't offer anything of substance. I replied with "I didn't ask for an opinion, I asked for directions on obtaining them". Moments later a bounty was placed on my head by the player who apparently didn't like that I didn't care for his opinion.

How is this anything but a deterrent to continue playing? I only tried to seek a simple answer as the Wiki contains zero information on obtaining shares, and wind up having a bounty and still no answer.

Bottom line, I never knew that the rumored toxic nature of this community was really so bad that new players are trolled and harassed in Rookie Help.

You are asking question that has no answer you want. You are not getting shares without current owner giving them. So no wonder no one could help you.

If you just subbed a few hours ago then why are you concerned about corp shares. TBH you should be doing the tutorials and learning the basics of this game not trying to figure out corp mechanics. Or op is trolling and or was made fun of on the rookie chan.

Eve University is an awesome organization, seek employment there. I would answer questions in their pub channel if I wasn't banned from it for some unknown reason.

When i was a new player the biggest question i had was how do i turn rookie chat off?
Google > rookie chat and you don't have to put up with 3 million ******** questions /hr.

A lot of people tend to use alts to post in the forum due to their need to keep a low profile as to their ingame activities. Some such as myself post as ourselves. Up to you how you do it. Smile

Corporation shares are usually used in EVE to destroy or take over a corp which is why you received the bad karma. It is best not to touch the corp shares at all or for the CEO to keep a tight hold onto all of them.

There are better places to ask questions such as the various in-game chat channels. You are more likely to get a civil reply there although you will get genuine replies in the forum as well. Helpful in-game chat channels would include the various NPC corp channels, EVE Uni channel, Minerals & Manufacturing, Blueprints, Ships, etc. Just don't ask too many questions at once.

There are some bad people in EVE such as the ones currently involved in bullying a vulnerable guy in a TS channel. But most of us aren't too bad. A lot of money was raised by the community not so long ago for the Icelandic Red Cross so most of our hearts are in the right place. Smile

I've gotten some excellent, detailed practical advice in Rookie Help. There are some vet regulars in there who are very helpful. You just have to get past the trolls. Actually it's a good place your Anti-Troll Comebacks skill points up-- you're going to need those throughout your EVE career. Smile

Well here is the problem. You are kicked after 30 days. So the only vets you will ever see there are guys starting up an additional new account. And after 30 days they are kicked again...

Hmmm this could well be the problem.

When I start an alt or was between corps I found myself helping in the NPC corp chat more often.

Maybe it's time for an actual "Ask the Bitter Vet" chat. Good advice to be had (if you are not ready to hang yourself after getting it).

OK just kidding.

But there may be a need for a channel that better bridges the knowledge of veterans and noobs.

I've actually found the rookie channel to be quite helpful (and friendly) during my stay there. There were many people willing to assist and try to keep up with the very fast rate of questions. Sure there was the occasional drought in answers, the occasional troll or spammer (eventually dealt with by an ISD volunteer), but overall it was quite useful. I myself answered hundred of questions once I knew my way around EVE basics, and I was a bit sad to be kicked out of the channel after my first month was over.

In contrast, trying to get any help from specialized channels has typically been a waste of my time. People too busy showing off and posing.

I enjoy helping players. I did not realize this channel existed. I cannot, however, enter it.

Obviously you haven't found / tried New Citizen Q&A forums.

I and the fellow regulars are kind of sad now saying that there isn't any useful help in EVE for a new player.Cry

To my understanding, and based on the advice of a GM who randomly contacted me a few days ago during my trial, Rookie Help is supposed to have veteran players willing to offer advice and answers. Had I known otherwise, I'd never have wasted a moment of my time.

Nobody older then 30 days of account time can access Rookie Help.

The only exception to that rule are:

CCP employees, so Devs and GMs.
ISD:STAR members (Volunteer program. Basically players who have special character to assist CCP. STAR is the new player helping department of the ISD program).

My experience is the opposite. If no one answers your question ask again, ask in Corp, ask in E-UNI. Maybe you didn't get answers because you asked about a useless, rarely used game mechanic. The Help channel is great too, especially when Keith Eaton is on..

*Snip* Please refrain from personal attacks. ISD Ezwal.

The corporation I wanted to obtain shares in is newly started by a real life friend, who has been bugging me to join Eve for years. My wife and I decided we'd give it a shot, so here we are. My reason for obtaining shares? To invest in the corporation. The CEO is the very same friend who invited my wife and I to this game -- who also intends to make me a Director once I have a better grasp on the game. So no, I don't intend to "take over".

Bottom line, this topic has nothing to do with my background

I commented on the general toxicity of Rookie Help, nothing more.. nothing less.

I apologize if an opinionated topic is somehow offensive. Last I checked, that's what forums are to be used for.

Try english Help channel. There are more experienced players, and since you HAVE to find that channel in channel finder, you will mostly meet ppl willing to help each other.

Rookie help is actually pretty good, if you ask rookie questions.

Questions about corp shares isn't in the scope of what they are there for.

Actually the answer about "scam, they're not worth it" was accurate.
