Simple question; Rifter or Merlin for solo PVP?
I've been using a rifter as pvp fodder, but the merlin seems to be more popular since I played a few years ago!

The changes this week to the rifter means that it is now quite a different ship from a few weeks ago. I personally love the rifter and have about 10 with different fits in the hanger.

But Merlin's are a solid ship with a 4 med slots and a resit bonus. So they can have quite a bit of tank, ie 2 MSE on one of my fits. over 6k EHP which is high for a t1 frig.

TBH i think everything is fairly well balanced. Otherwise there wouldn't be big threads over which is better.

Well fun is also good.

Thanks, Think I will stick with the Rifter then.

Both are good depending on what you're up against, double web merlin is nice though.

I disagree

Have a look at the kite Condor and dual prop Slasher, they're much better ships than the Merlin and Rifter imo.

To be honest, get yourself 100 of each and explode all of them. Why pick one when you can be an expert in 2. After you explode all of them, you will know a few things. Fitting, velocity, brawling, kiting, spiraling, what ships you can take out, what ships you can't, what ships you can surprisingly take out in a frigate, bookmarks, and oh, just how dangerous high sec actually is. WHs, low sec and null sec are actually safer.

I personally like the Merlin. That being said, as was mentioned before, go download EFT and fit up a few of each. They are very cheap and you can easily fit them with cheap items. At that point go have fun until you figure out which one you like the most!

Fly them both, they are normally very different.

Hate to point this out, but at current prices, getting 100 Rifters and 100 Merlins is an investment of [strikeout]half a billion isk[/strikeout] - for the bare hulls. Fitting those hulls could double that, never mind rigging. [strikeout]That's ... not really realistic for a newcomer to EVE.[/strikeout]

ETA: eep! My bad on the math mistake. Slipped a decimal point. Still, when I was a noob, fifty or one hundred million ISK was one heck of a lot of cash to have on hand.

And how do you strike out text on this forum, anyway?

They are currently less than a million per hull. That is like 200M, very short of half a billion. And anyway he doesn't mean exactly 100 as you well know.
