Launcher Feature Suggestion - Automatically Download and Apply Patches

I leave my computer on pretty much 24/7, and I leave the launcher open as well. I've noticed that even if the login token expires, if I log in, and hit Launch, if there was a new patch deployed, my client still reports that there is a new build available and goes through the old way to download it.

What would be more helpful is if there was a way for the Launcher to periodically check for updates (possibly after downtime), and automatically download and apply the update. This setting could be added under the "Patches" tab in the EVE Launcher Settings.

This would be a benefit to users who are in different timezones, and aren't able to restart the application to get the latest patch while they are at work.

Can this please be integrated, or at least a button which toggles the download and installation of a patch manually without restarting the launcher?

It is highly irritating when you go prepare your lunch/dinner/food/whatever when downtimes arrives and you close/relaunch the launcher a bit too early, before the server is actually closed, and the launcher does not update the client. Then you have to have to close it again, launch again and type in your login data again. That's far from being comfortable and what a launcher should be able to provide in terms of functionality.

My ridicule, heavy criticism and general pale outlook about your or CCP's ideas is nothing but an encouragement to prove me wrong. Give it a try.

Thanks guys. Auto downloading/patching seems like a no brainer, and having to manually restart the launcher after downtime seems very unnecessary.

I've been in the situation of coming home, and having to wait while a fleet was going out while my client downloaded and applied the latest patch, which could be 1.2GB in size or higher.

Another bonus to this feature, which could be customizable in the settings, would be to have the patch updates be distributed peer-to-peer, even using the Bittorrent protocol. This might help speed up patch downloads, as the majority of users will need to download the patch the day after it goes live, so swarm updating makes the most sense. For users who have multiple clients to update, this could be extrememly helpful. This could be an "opt-in", as users who don't have the bandwidth to spare won't have to contribute and can download direct.
