A quick sniping pvp question

I have been coming up with a long range sniping BS fit and the only question that I don't know the answer to is if long range guns can hit small craft very effectively (this is of course assuming that the target is not stationary IE...webbed and is already engaged in PVP combat with other members of my fleet). I have already figured out that if I put this fit together as planed I will have about 140 km locking range and be able to hit with Faction Platonium Ammo (I can only use T1 guns for now) with about 105 km optimal range, so I would plan on warping in at about 100 km from my fleet member. I am guessing that there distance from me would negate (to a large extent) the effects that there speed would have on my tracking but im not sure. Does any one who has experience in PVP sniping know how effective it is against small targets?

Sniper Rohk or Naga with Prototype 425s and Fed Navy Uranium with 2 (or three) Sebos (1 for range, 1 or 2 for optimals) , tracking enhancers and magstabs. At ranges like those, tracking shouldn't be an issue. Set up your overview for sniping by showing Transversal and angular and pick your moments when the numbers line up.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Use a Naga or Tornado so you can align/warp quicker when you need to.

No to the Tornado. The Tornado has high alpha and is a phenomenal ganker, but watch the falloff. That's the problem there. If you want a good sniper BC I strongly recommend the Oracle, as it's effective range and actual DPS are a lot higher than that of the Tornado. I have lost a little over 55 Tornadoes so far this year to CONCORD. I know it well. I still use the Oracle for sniping.

Edit: You can do almost full damage (~600 DPS) w/ an Oracle from 190km w/ implants and the right fit... just FYI

so is it important to use some kind of tracking enhancement when sniping? if so I could use a tracking computer with a tracking script to enhance my tracking speed if that is the case. doing that would decrease my range some (but not much) so I would have to use a weaker ammo type (perhaps Lead Ammo). doing that I could still hit at over 100 km range in my optimal range. I am also using a BS not a BC would that cause a problem?

yes you have the basic concept down.

Sniping is pretty effective against small vessels (with larger ships) as long as they are not moving very quickly, preferably not at all.

As for ship choice the T3 BC's (Naga's or Oracles imo, Nados if you have a few friends and want volley stuff) are IMO better than the BS for sniping. You don't want to be moving at all so the faster align/warp out of a Naga is preferential. It still gets to rock the big guns like a BS as well so it still packs a punch. (in case of Naga over Rokh you get 25% more DMG assuming max skills and retain the range bonus.)

This is what the T3 BC's were built for. Use them instead.

I would use 150mm rail cormys for a bit to get the hang of things. If your going to just disregard that first sentence and use a biger ship at least use a tier 3 bc instead of a bs.

Transversal and angular velocity are your friends.
Learn them and learn how they both apply to your fits. Take this as free advice, I usually charge for this.
