After getting home from a long day of work I get to upgrade day. Have to delete a bunch of crap from C to make room because the patcher isn't intelligent enough to let me install onto the drive I want to. Still no go. Have to install the client from scratch...I really wish I'd bookmarked chriba's post about the client bittorent because now, hours later, I still can't join my corp in their roams.

Sad me. Couldn't you guys have at least stickied the bittorrent if not make an intelligent updater? I know software dev is hard, it's what I do...but gfd, I wanted to play eve tonight, not mess with computerized stupidity!

Interesting...
My XP box: H:\Games\CCP\EVE
My Win7 box: G:\CCP\EVE

I have never had an install or patch issue for the live or test servers.

What OS are you using?

Think CCP droped BT cause well... eve aint like WoT... no one playes it, no one used the BT so they removed seeding the game like that (could be wrong)

Love wot's BT easy 2.4mb/sec, but most of the time I pull the same from eve.

Finally back on. Some great changes I've been waiting for for a long time. I play eve on my bigscreen and until now using it at full res was ridiculouse because of the stupid itty bitty font and unadjustable UI. Thanks big time for finally moving on that one guys!

I don't know what others are bitching about with the font. I think it works nice.

While downloading and extracting the update it'll do so on the C drive, regardless of which drive you identify as your EVE install. It'll gobble up about 4 GB while doing this and will delete this once the update is fully installed. It's very illogical and rather... CCP-like.

Amazingly, my patcher IS smart enough to put it on the drive I want.

Have you tried;

Trolling?

Did you not set your systems temp directory to another drive with more space before you patch, or install, EVE?

Not CCP's fault if you are not intelligent enough to do a forum search to find the workaround for this.

The installer uses it's own temp directory, not the windows one. You're welcome to defend CCP's choice to not make it an easily available option ofcourse. Oh wait, you're just an idiot.

I believe that the patcher respects Windows' TEMP environment variable. Point that to a drive with more free space on it and you should be fine. Other applications will use it too, of course, so don't set it to a top level directory. Lol

Speaking of forum search.... have you tried to use it? It's not exactly google quality.

I had the exact same problem with the SiSi client when I tried testing crucible. The so-called sisi installer is pretty crap in this sense.

The stupidity of the eve updater that it downloads multiple gigabytes patch/client into windows temp directories without asking whether the person would want to download it somewhere else is just that; stupid.

ITs possible to DL the patch manually and apply it yourself to evedirectory, but this autoupdater behaviour should still get fixed.

ps. My current PC got hit by a virus and is currently set aside while I wait parts for my new gaming rig (dont have to do that to fix the virus, but my pc was getting old and I decided to solve two problems at once), so I will have to wait until I get to see crucible with my own eyes. Even if my new pc wont propably much care about this problem, its still a big problem for older PCs.

pps. To the people saying there are workarounds: YES there ARE workarounds, doesnt change the fact that the autoupdater should be fixed. The eve client is much bigger than your average patch.

Then use google to find it. There are plenty of threads about this topic. Here is one from patch day.

It indeed does respect the TEMP variable. Personally got a spare 18GB SCSI disk dedicated for that, works like a charm.

Make sure you have at least 6gb of space on your C drive. And you CCP if you ever read this "YOUR INSTALLERS SCREAMS WE ARE AMATEURS" I mean 2011, working in the industry of years, aren't you guys ashamed? When you see what they got for Wow of warcraft it s seriously pitiful.

So first you make me download an exe file of 1.2 gb, this exe file contains another exe file with a 1.2 7z archive, and this archive contains two files for about 3gb. So basically for your 1.2gb file I need 6gb for temp files caus the first file will extract the 7z zip archive, and then the 7z will extract the the others.... wtf...

I know HDD aren't that expensive but I'm on an old laptop with multiple partitions and after years of use and playing a multitude of games I can't think of an installer/patcher as clunky as yours. At least let us choose a random location for the temporary files extraction.

This game deserves less clunkiness.
