Do Shield Maint Bots Help vs Ganking?

I jumped into an ice belt and saw several miners sporting shield maint drones. I know these can easily be destroyed but do they help at all? I'm guessing if two gankers in catalysts attack you in a mackinaw, you might save yourself one volley from one of them as he destroys your drones.

My question to you gankers is, if you see two macks, one with shield drones and the other with hobgoblins, does it make a difference? Would shield drones deter you in any way?

You can't use shield drones on yourself, so just shoot the one that deployed them and they will have no effect.

That awkward moment at the Gentlemen's Club when you see your sister on the stage....and you're not sure where to put the money....

As a ganker, you wouldn't shoot the drones anyway. That would bring Concord just the same as shooting a ship would.
The goal would be to alpha strike the miner before a drone could get a cycle off.

The drones are more likely for protection from belt rats.

Presumably, with shield maint bots already operating on a target, gankers will have to account for them. The effect will be greatest in 0.5-0.6 or course - systems where alpha is relied on least.
The actual effect may be minimal, a couple of hundred raw shield HP perhaps, but (depending on resists) that might mean an extra pilot is required for the gank...
In the end it may just be a question of ease, if the gankers have a choice of two, identically fitted, targets, it's easier to kill the one without shield maint bots on it.

Has to be anti rat? If your going to deploy drones v gankers you would use ecm drones wouldnt you?

Having ECM drones out on your Mack can/will deter a solo Catalyst ganker, especially if there's other miners about who don't do it because they'll just go for those instead. If you tank your Mack, which isn't very difficult, you'll also deter most gank attempt; some will fail, most will go for another target. So having AND tanked your mack AND have ECM drones then that's pretty much as good as it's gonna get.

A fit like the following would require 3 catalysts to gank it in 0.5 space, that assumes all lvl 5 gankers and even then it's close. Those ECM drones have 1/3rd chance to jam a catalyst so on average they'd need a 4th catalyst to make up for it. Needing 4 catalysts for a single target who won't drop anything meaningful just doesn't make sense so unless they personally targeted you for whatever reason you'll be fine.

Tanking your Mackinaw and ECM... No fair! Give the gankers a chance. Fit a civilian shield booster with lots of cap rechargers in the mids. Cap stable baby! P
