I wonder if Valkyrie will be cross platform like dust and eve or if the pilots will inhabit different servers. Either way it should be fun.

Also inb4 master race rage.

I hope the Sony VR unit is also able to be used on the PC (someone will build an open source emulator or something I'm sure).

That would make it easier to get one for my son on his PS4 and use in on my PC for Valkyrie.

Either way, I don't see any problem with Valkyrie being on PS4, as long as it isn't exclusive to that platform. I don't think there is anything there to suggest it is PS4 only and the Sony VR unit seems to use the Oculus Rift software. If that's the case, all good.

I own a ps4 and will definitely get in on this, but that said it seems like a better fit for a pc game.

Either way I'll be playing it

It's going to be multi-platform.

It seems that the original announcement means exclusive to the Occulus Rift headset. Not exclusive to PC.

So close to the EVE I imagined when I first logged in. So very close.

Motion sickness and 360 degree puking coming now to consoles. As fun as i sounds the VR thingys cause massive motion sickness even for regular players who normally doesnt suffer from this. I wonder if they have to print a note on the back that you might puke while playing.

Of the hundreds of people I saw play the game at last FF, I didn't notice anyone with motion sickness.

And even then, the tech is betting better. Last I heard we were down to 3-5ms response time.

I salute brave developers of Valkyrie and Elite: Dangerous and I hope they'll be able to return at least 50% of development cost as simulators are the least interesting genre among MMO games.

War Thunder, Planetside 2, Battlefield 4

So many ways to get my inner fighter pilot out!

And I don't have to save up forever for a Computer that will run em!

You clearly must be too young to remember great movies like Top Gun and Iron Eagle 1-4; Or the glories of Freespace, Freespace 2, Freelancer, Independence War 1/2, X-Wing Vs Tie Fighter, Wing Commander...

It was a sad, sad, day for gaming when the companies started pandering to the Halo/Call of Duty crowd.

There is an overabundance of youngish (under 30) FPS fans amongst game reviewers, game execs and game devs. Which means a huge seller like the Sims (still the top selling PC franchise) will often get labeled as boring in an online review whilst a FPS that is all graphics and no content (and clearly going to flop) will get money and awesome reviews. Its also notable that the top selling console games have been mainly for WII and DS neither of which are seen as "cool" platforms.

In addition the danger for any game that is basically a flightsim is there is a big learning curve. If its multiplayer you cannot solve this by just give the targets massive hitboxes and have them explode after two shots because the target is another player. So players need to learn to fly and shoot. In the regular (WWII etc) flightsim community there is also a large hardware investment. Success online in IL2 WWII battles really needed joystick, HOTAS, pedals and a head tracker on a fast machine to be competitive.

Which is why I'm so excited to See War Thunder coming to PS4, and now this VR stuff... although if there is an option, you can bet I'm going to use Joystick/HOTAS for the more authentic feel (hoping I can talk the wife into a HOTAS sometime, no innuendo initially intended)

Do we know if its (Valkyrie) just going to be matchmaking PVP game, or if you are going to be able to roam around and look at space rocks n admire the view?

*Not that I mind matchmaking PVP in a space fighter pilot sim (SWTOR Galactic Starfighter is far and away the best part of that game and really the only thing I do in it)

Really? The PS4 seemed to be selling fairly well, last I heard, and I'd be interested to know where you got the pre-alpha code for the game.

I don't know about this. DUST was supposed to integrate with EvE... and I mean where are we at with that? Nowhere.

Not sure where the follow through will be. Not sure I even want a PS4... friends are on XBox.

I'm taking a "wait and see" stance on it.

I've played almost everything - for couple weeks. However gameplay which is interesting during a week or two (putting dots in the center of screen and then pushing trigger) isn't exactly that makes successful MMO game. Probably devs of Need for Speen Online and MechWarrior Online understand that now.
