Hi,
I'm having issues trying to run EVE under WINE, and for some reason I can't create a topic in the Linux section!

Help!

To expand on the previous comment, trials can only post in this subforum. You can go ahead and post your issue here and hope for the best. You can also use the petition system to try and get some help.

So because I'm a trial account I can't post a technical problem? What kind of boneheaded logic is that?! What?
I'm not exactly likely to sign up for a paid account when the trial won't work.. >,<

Well, the idea is to prevent trial users from spamming/trolling other forums, especially GD. Although I agree that the tech support forums should also be free to post.

Anyway, you can post any question here and someone might answer and/or repost the question in the Linux forum.

But first, make sure to untick "Load Station Environment" to stop Captain's Quarters from trying to appear. (If you cannot start the game on Linux, CQ is the most likely reason.) And read this thread: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=172086&find=unread

Don't forget to re-check it after you've jumped out of the CQ mode so that you can spin your ship in the normal hanger :P

I agree with Thomas. It's silly that the technical forums is locked.

The trial restriction is indeed in place so that only the NCQA regulars have to deal with the random free trial alts created for trolling/spamming the forums, GD already has its hands full with dealing with paying customers doing it.

Ergo, it's in place to prevent abuse of free trials to disrupt the forums.

The first thing I do after booting WIndows 8 is to open a F20 virtualbox full-screen, connect to my Linux RAID server (33 TB and growing), and fire-up tmux. My only complaint about Linux under virtualbox is that it doesn't support USB 3.0 controllers, so I can't directly access those devices from Linux with my laptop.

I've found it simplest to just run EVE (and EFT, EVEmon, etc.) under Windows, and do useful stuff under Linux.

Thanks! The 'untick Load Station Interior' suggestion worked! :)

Also, my PC won't run Windows 7 for some reason. It keeps freaking out during installtion, and gives a blue screen!

That sounds like broken hardware or unsupported hardware which doesn't follow standards. Where you can find non-standard hardware, would that be government/military contractors?

Sounds like a reformat is in order.

Joking a side, I am curious of why the choice of Windows 8 for host system (over Windows XP or 7)?
