How would you fit an ANTI Explorer Hound?

I've been training towards this and now I want to pay it forward as I was killed by explorer stalkers (or just campers). I have a slight idea how I'd fit one but overall I'm clueless. Thanks in advance!

[Hound, Cyno]
Damage Control II
Micro Auxiliary Power Core II

Medium F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction
Warp Disruptor II
Limited 1MN Microwarpdrive I

Light Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Nova Light Missile
Light Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Nova Light Missile
Covert Cynosural Field Generator I
Covert Ops Cloaking Device II

Small Anti-Thermal Screen Reinforcer I
Small Anti-Explosive Screen Reinforcer I

Or Perhaps:

[Hound, Fisher]
Damage Control II
200mm Reinforced Steel Plates II
Small Ancillary Armor Repairer, Nanite Repair Paste

Fleeting Propulsion Inhibitor I
Faint Epsilon Warp Scrambler I
1MN Afterburner II

Rocket Launcher II, Caldari Navy Mjolnir Rocket
Rocket Launcher II, Caldari Navy Mjolnir Rocket
Covert Ops Cloaking Device II

Small Auxiliary Nano Pump I
Small Bay Loading Accelerator I

The Rocket launcher version would be good for killing other frigates. The cyno version would be appropriate when engaging anything with teeth. I'm not exactly a fan of the hound for this, as I prefer have 4 mids for this type of engagement.

Hey, newbie here.

Can you explain why rockets are good against frigates?

Can you also explain why a cyno? I don't understand what the point of this would be..
Thanks!

Rockets is the close range missile systems for frigate hulls and most damage will apply to these hulls also, bigger weapon systems often have a harder time against smallar targets.

To learn more you can check in game on the rocket ammo and get a bunch of stats, then you can check online for the missile damage formula that I guess someone reverse engineered.

The Cyno is used to call in the backup fleet.

Get on Comms, or die typing.

I see, thanks!

Would it be ok to do this with projectile turrets rather than rocket launchers?

Well, you can only fit two turrets on a Hound and generally it's better to use three times the same weapon than to split it 2 turrets + 1 launcher. But then, I don't think it'll matter much, as this fit is only good at hunting unarmed exploration frigs anyway.

Also, as Gizznit said, the hound isn't ideal, as you might need a second scram (Warp Scrambler) to counter stabs (Warp Core Stabilizers). And if you fit that second scram, you'll be left with no prop.

you need more scrams. 2 mostly and 3 for the amarr scanning frig.

Cyno? How damn paranoid can you get? Just fit a Salvager and clean up your mess, ha ha! BTW rockets just stay within the theme and are easy to apply, I use T2 autocannons on my counter-explorer Hound.

I've seen a lot of bad hound fits over the years. The two listed in this thread are going on that list.

If this is for low sex or empire, then the fits are only mostly bad.

Here's the deal. It's a bomber. If you plan to fly it correctly there is no tank on it. You have a covert ops cloaking device - that is your tank. If you decide to engage - you uncloak and engage. If it's a fight you're going to die for sure - then decide if you want to trade your bomber for whatever the objective is (this only comes into play if you aren't solo)

Did I mention that it's a bomber? Put a freaking bomb launcher on it. (this doesn't apply for low sex or hs)

You want to catch scanning ships I would recommend a sensor booster and some luck - they are just difficult to catch.

Scram on a bomber???? Sure if you're after cloaky haulers or haulers in general, but this guy is after explorers, so a scram is out.

If you're wasting module slots on tank, you are doing it wrong. Stealth (hey it's a stealth bomber... this is all coming together), cunning, surprise, speed and the crazy high dps for a frigate are your tools. You want to stomp in and tank your way through an engagement the assault frigate is what you want.

Think about the bonus a ship gives you and how you intend to use it when fitting them out. By all means don't cookie cutter forum fits and not understand what's going on w/ all those modules.

Then you're bad at reading what this fit was for. Second fit is exactly what I would use to make easy work of explo frigs, although a combat fit astero will be a tough target and will probably kill you.

Nice thing about doing this in a bomber is you can be at point blank, uncloak, and have them locked down before they even see you on their overview. A roughly identical (but even tankier, lower dps) setup works as cheap and nearly foolproof jump-bridge tackle.

"**CCP is changing policy, and has asked that we discontinue the bonus credit program after November 7th. So until then, enjoy a super-bonus of 1B Blink Credit for each 60-day GTC you buy!"**

Never forget.

Oh dear. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on what bad is.

As for bad at reading?? His request was fairly general and the posted fits are very specific (for what - I'm still not sure, but very specific none the less)

If you focus more on where I gave the guy some pointers and stuff to consider when fitting a ship, and less on where I said the posted fits were bad (OMG how dare I) - I think it is quite clear that I'm at least 'OK' at reading.

Go have a nice cool glass of lemonade or bourbon (which ever will settle you down better) [Just a note here that I gave you options instead of dictating what you should do out of hand - see how that works?]

He asked for an anti explorer bomber. This pretty much means anti exploration frigate bomber as no one in their right mind does exploration in BS and most other exploration ships besides the explo frigs can kill bombers with ease.
-> Fitting Torps is stupid as they will not do much against frigs
-> Fitting Bomb launcher is stupid as it will not do much against frigs
-> Fitting no tank is stupid as the exploration frigs are capable of killing an untanked bomber with drones.

-> You are bad at reading and your fitting advise (though correct if you try to catch ratting bs) is useless in this thread.

Second fit in this thread is good for catching explo frigs in sites and killing them.

I've killed more frigates with bombers than you've killed things period. Thanks for the advice though. I don't see any mention of torpedos until you started berating me about them. I bow to your forum prowess. I am the student and you are the master.

Hi there.

I saw this post while I was at work and I was triggered by how little you seem to know about stealth bombers.

First of all all bombers should have a tank. a tank makes the difference between you surviving long enough to warp out or you dying to a flight of drones. And that tank should not be a small shield extender.

Second of all a scram on a bomber is pretty legit nowadays with mjd's. If you are solo hunting ratters then its your choice between going after bs's or going after bc's

Third thing why on earth would you fit a sebo on a bomber? You can start locking as soon as you de-cloak. A sebo is a waste of a mid.

I'd actually use a Nemesis.

[Nemesis, Anti Explo]
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II

Medium Ancillary Shield Booster, Navy Cap Booster 50
1MN Afterburner II
Warp Scrambler II
Warp Scrambler II

Covert Ops Cloaking Device II
Light Neutron Blaster II, Void S
Light Neutron Blaster II, Void S
Rocket Launcher II, Inferno Rage Rocket
Rocket Launcher II, Inferno Rage Rocket

Small Ancillary Current Router I
Small Anti-Thermal Screen Reinforcer II

Navy Cap Booster 50 x50
Void S x1200
Inferno Rage Rocket x1200
Mobile Depot x1
Core Probe Launcher II x1
Sisters Core Scanner Probe x8

188 dps heated, can choose between 2 scrams and scram/web, depot for refitting after you found a site for that dash of extra dps.

ASB will actually tank a flight of unbonused Hobgoblins as long as the charges last.

I would use an astero. You need cloaking trained to IV or ideally V, and then just bump the explorer to stop him from warping off before you recalibration delay is over.

Just to be sure, what you are saying is that you would put a bomb launcher on the bomber but then NOT put torps on it?
I am sorry if I incorretly assumed that the bomber in your first fit would have torps, obviously I was totally wrong about that and you indeed hinted at the long overseen bomb carrying untanked warp disrupter bomber WITHOUT torpedos!

I actually didn't say, buy hey you're the pro, so you already know it all.... right? I haven't really said how I fit my bombers, but then again my fit may not suite the exact needs of the OP or anyone else. What I did do was give my opinions on what I feel is a bad fit and my opinion on some things to consider when fitting out a bomber.

How do I fet them?? I've lost a fair few, so my fit is crazy easy to find. My fit doesn't really apply here for a few reasons. I criuse wh space, so I could be anywhere doing anything w/ said bomber - so it's an all purpose fit (the OP wants to specifically target exploration guys). I can fly all the races and tbh I think the slot layout of the manticore makes it supior for what I do, so I pretty much fly that exclusively (the OP wanted a hound, so in lieu of making something up that I don't actually fly I just gave him some fitting things to think about).

Overall for me (random acts of bomberism via random wh routes) - I like bomb launchers and try really hard to get my guys to not use probes on their bombers (I get that there is a niche for solo dual account guys where this is a vital part of their 2 man fleet). I like torps and a target painter. Bombers get get a bonus to hitting little things with big things and a painter helps a lot for the frigates. I recommend uncloaking 50k from a frigate gang (or guy), giving him a second to activate his mwd and charge you. Paint him, bomb him and light him up w/ torps - then tell me you can't kill frigs w/ torps/bombs. My point is you can make what ever you have work in this game.

Flying style - we are usuall in gangs of 4ish, so I like the sensor booster for scanners coming through wh - sometimes you get them, most times you don't. I use my cloak as a tank. Set the situation up while cloaked and then uncloak and try to execute whatever plan was dreamed up for the situation. There are tons and tons of different things to do w/ bombers - they are a fun ship that enables one to do some crazy stuff.

Favorites:
1 - and this is the old school bomber that used to have cruise missiles on them - the 1v1 bomber fights where you kill each other with that last volley due to the long flight distances of the cruise missiles.

2 - If you launch your torps just before a guy enters a pos shield they follow him in. Planting a guys wreck inside the pos shields just makes me feel good all over.

I'm still putting the first 2 fits on my bad list. I don't really care how you guys feel about that. Nor should you. I think the point is to give the guy asking a question stuff to think about. I'm realy not a fan of 'do this' and link a fit. That teaches guys how to copy and paste, not fit ships or get better at the game. To each his own though.
