Windows multi-box shortcut parameters

How about giving us parameters to the .exe so that shortcuts to multiple accounts can pre-populate the username?

"C:\Program Files\CCP\Eve.exe" -u VaeldanAthargan

This way, those of us who have multiple accounts can multibox-configure them and save a login step.

This really should be a quick and simple addition to the .exe code. Literally an hour's-work fix, right?

Ya, that way I wouldn't have to have 8 client directories and wouldn't have to apply the patch 8 times to be able to play.

Don't answer if you got no clue what you are talking about.

8 customized shortcuts still point to a single file in a single client directory, therefore 1 patch.

I second the idea.

However right now something like this can probably be achieved with symlinks and autologin enabled

Then you are doing it wrong, you should only need 1 actual EVE install, and you should be using symlink directory links for each additional eve client you run.

I have run over 8 clients in the past, each with SEPARATE and individual settings all through one install.

Example of my CCP folder, I moved my eve installation to my SSD thats why there is a symbolic link there right now:

Check out method 1 Junctions under the wiki:

If I need to update EVE, I just run the default launcher once updated, I close the launcher and open each account going to the old login screen via the \bin\ExeFile.exe shortcut

I use symlinks myself, but still using the launcher. Is there a benefit to using the ExeFile directly?

Yah, you don't have the launcher :)

Who knows when the 'old way' will be dropped by devs, so I was just trying to think ahead. I have 3 shortcuts set up, per the wiki (they call them Junctions there, but they are just windows symlinks). The idea is that each shortcut will store it's own settings and preferences separately, which works well. You can test this by changing UI properties in one and it stays there, doesn't bleed to the others.

I just want to not launch shortcut 1 (which is settings for Character A) and accidentally log in Character B. It's annoying.

Leave the password field blank, not asking for auto-login. I just want to be able to prepopulate the Username field via parameter.

You've stated that you aren't using the launcher, correct? You are linking directly to the .exe, correct?

how do you do this symlinks stuff? I only run 2 clients, but have such a slow DL speed, that I'd love to halve the time it takes to update! especially as I consider a 3rd account

For posting an idea into F&I: come up with idea, try and think how people could abuse this, try to fix your idea - loop the process until you can't see how it could be abused, then post to the forums to let us figure out how to abuse it..... If your idea can be abused, it WILL be.
