First attempt, 2004: realized I have to roleplay destructible ship, quit 5 minutes later.

Second attempt 2005-2006: played docking tutorial (you had to ask station for permission to dock) and couple mining tutorials, calculated I need two months to upgrade my frigate to corvette, quit ~1 hour after start.

Third attempt 2007: did few tutorial missions, used gate, lost direction, got into low-sec, popped, quit. It took couple hours.

Forth (successful) attempt, 2009: tutorials were good, so I finally got a clue - what the heck I was doing? Then started to do missions, 3 weeks later I was in Dominix.

- Mine.
- Stacked more agent missions on top of each other then I could handle.
- Was amazed the "police" didn't protect me from rats.
- Said politely 'no' to people who wanted to fleet me up, "take me to null where they would shoot rats and I could take the loot and become rich", aka the 'lofty' scam.
- Followed an outdated 'token' a rat dropped into null (that was I'm told something before there where mission agents), made it 10-20 jumps through low then got shot by the infamous 'Le Skunk', who let me strangely live so I could pod back to high sec.
- And on day 10 I got invited into my first EVE corp, best guys ever, gave me skill books, implants, skill training advice and what not. Still talking to a few of them from time to time. Good days indeed. Smile

Damn edit: day 12 I had my second account. P

Did the tutorials
ran missions
saved up for a modal neutron blaster and couldnt understand why it wouldnt fit on an incurus..Ugh

spent a week watching pvp, reading and looking at fits.

Found why I couldnt fit a big ass gun to a tiny ship. Lol

PAID a sub and went out to cause havoc. Big smile

So like after 76 petitions I still dont have a logical normal answer.   Fly safe and fly true and use your headset on the Loo

did the soe arc in a rifter
took up exploration
got picked up by a null training corp
went into low sec and started shooting everyone, then went into null and apparently shot an "afk" blue so they kicked me out
joined a pirate corp, figured out I need more isk than I have to pvp and bringing ships out to low was a pain in several jumps
left them and now i'm mining

That's…. somewhat putting the world upside down. :o

Mining sure seems a popular pastime for new players.

If i remember the first 14 days of play i had were bumbling around in poorly fitted frigates doing level 1 missions and ratting in 0.5 systems.

There were no real tutorials to speak of.

Reminds me, my first fits had both shield, armor and wait for it… yep hull tanking mods. Lol

Not much because I ended up in a station with a lot of curbstompers outside.. Tutorials and such didn't exist.

I skipped the tutorial, because it was pretty meaningless in 2006, and derped around the tutorial system for a couple of days, mining veld with my civilian mining laser and shooting rats with my mighty civilian railgun. Day 3, I realised that EVE had more than 1 system in it because someone in local showed my how to put gates on my overview (they weren't on by default in those days).

I did L1 missions for a couple of days, then told my agent to shove it when she gave me that garbage hauling one. By then I'd accumulated enough ISK and SP for a LML Kestrel, (with only 2 empty slots!), and I was collecting pirate logs from belt rats, then following them to the 1/10 plexes for more rats to kill. Those plexes were broken though because the bosses dropped loot with a weird name that didn't even appear on the market so you couldn't sell them Sad I just reprocessed those pieces of junk. Who wants a "c-type" anything?

On my way to collect some mods for the Kestrel, I unwittingly flew through lo-sec and got instapopped by a pirate. I guess he looked at my tragic fit, because he convo'd me and asked "Alt or noob". After I worked out what he meant, I explained that I was a "noob" and had only been playing a few days. He gave me a little advice and also 10M ISK.

This was before invention, so meta 4 loot was worth a lot. Around my 8th or 9th day I found a meta 4 shield boost amp, which I sold for 23M ISk - just about tripling my NAV! I used the money to buy a Caracal (OMG THE POWER!!!!!). When I tried to train the skillbook, a message popped up telling me YOU GOTS TO PAY NOW, so I subbed.

I used the (T1 AB/passive fit) Caracal to make little forays into lo-sec to run the first 1-2 rooms of some of the 4/10s in gallente lo-sec. My DPS was so miserable that I had to kite, and it took ages. I didn't realise that they were supposed to have a cool loot drop at the end; they were just a convenient source of rats for me.

Trained a few skills
Mined in a Badger
Bought a bantam and learned about optimal range and fall off
Took said bantam out into null sec without understanding the danger for a courier mission
Was kindly escorted out of null sec by a member of Band of Brothers

That wasn't the lofty scam. The lofty scam was to get the missioner victim to join your NPC alt's fleet "to help me out pls I can't kill Rachen Mysuna pls help", then once he's busy with the to invite another alt/buddy with an active wardec into the fleet. The fleet rules at the time meant that the perp was included in the dec while he was fleeted with you. Then the victim could be aggressed and killed without CONCORD interfering.

I did a little bit of everything and then trained EVERYTHING. I mean everything. By the time two weeks was over I had at least level 2 in practically ever ability you could possibly train in that time frame. Most of them completely pointless things that I will don't need at all.

I just started a new alt and I am being much more sensible about it. Focusing on base piloting skills and frigate skills alone. I am not even going to train him to Destroyers 3 for a while so I won't be tempted to get a Cruiser.

Did the tutorials
Aura laughed at me and called me a silly pilot
Spent a fair amount of time waiting for Scotty to let me dock
Spent a lot of time on Google searching and reading up on relevant subject matter (still do)
I was lucky, My first corp had a great CEO. Pointed me in the right direction Re: learning skills and skill plans. What to fly and what to wait for based on current skills. ect.
And yes. I also mined in an industrial with a mining laser. What can I say, it seemed like a good idea at the time. Lol

Did the tutorials.
Flew around in a Venture fitted with a mining laser, a gatling laser, and a warp core stabilizer.
Failed to notice that my lock times were atrocious.
Almost immediately began trol... er... contributing on the forums.
Lost a lot of sleep.
After the tutorials, spent 6 hours moving all my crap from Amarr to the Blood Stained Stars location via autopilot.

Frankly, wasn't that long ago. Joined a corp and have learned a ton and am now in pretty decent shape methinks. Just grinding out skill points one at a time...

- Ran several of the tutorial missions
- came onto the forums to learn some of the lingo
- ran some more turorial missions
- discovered that Rookie fits are useless pretty much everywhere outside 1.0 space
