I think that I am in the same boat as the OP. As a returning 70mil SP player I have turned towards marketing, production. invention, and mining to try to sustain my Eve addiction. Following this thread in order to get some good ideas. Like the idea of training the other two accounts to do something productive.

Have they ever changed it so that you can train two toons on one account yet? Would be the best!

For a plex a month you can train multiple toons on the same acct.

My wallet increased by 5 Bill this month from just mining, with 2 Macks and Orca Boost, and fuel block production. 3 days a week.

So, I must heartily disagree about the poverty.

Mining has a set income which is determined by the market.

Set income would mean you make the same regardless of how much you mine. Everything has a "set" income by the definition you seem to be implying. Ratting is a "set" income determined by CCP bounty settings. Missions are a "set" income determined by bounties and rewards.

Mining can be very profitable.

If you max out your skills and got a Orca boost you can make about 23,630,900 ISK from Veldspar mining with the current prices. But lets run a simple calculation.

Plex: 640m
640/30=21.3m That means that you have to make 21.3 million every day to pay for a Plex.

So say you have a Retriver that mines 1500m3/Miner and the cycle time is 180sec. Then your projected income for Veldspar would be 8.000.000 ISK/h. 10.024.312 ISK7h with Scordite.
So that means you have to mine ~2.7h/day to just break even with the Plex. This is ok after all... but this is not a perfectly skilled character; Just adding a hauler would increase this as well.
There is a great site: http://www.eve-calculator.com/mining/income_calculator/ore.html that can help you calculate your income per hour.

But as long as you mine in hisec you can use the basic math that a jetcan i.e. 27500m3 is worth around ~5m if you sell it at a trading hub. If you refine you will make more if you have the skills for it.

I run 2 miners and a Orca and I make a projected income of 1.4 billions per week. This is not always true due to price changes, loss of ships, hunting down belts and all that or I can't just be arsed to mine for a while.

But you can make a lot of money mining but know that you are not safe in hisec, there are gankers and canflippers around. People will sooner or later suicide your ship and you will loose it. Know this and you can be upset about it but you need to accept this as a fact when mining in hisec.
