PLEASE READ THE POINTS AT THE END!

if you buy a toon from the character bazaar, you should have a free name change, or maybe throw a plex in for the name change..

im not saying give us a name change in game, like the skill remapping feature.. just when you buy a toon from someone else.

it would be a nice feature to add.. which would make you feel that it's a bit more of your toon, cause you might like a toon's SPs placement, but most of the names are tasteless, or just plain stupid.

i am aware of the problems it could cause for looking up the character before name change.. but other games did it without much problems, so i guess CCP could make it possible with the great team of people they have..

if you like the idea, thumbs up! (and comment if you feel like it)
if you don't like the idea, please criticize with a comment which is constructive.

EDIT:

heres some ideas that we got out during our convo

1. only available from buying a character from the bazaar
2. adding a star after the name to show the toon has been name changed ex: Renegade Zed*
3. adding a simple tab to show alias history
4. limiting the number of name change (with a timer, 6 months, 1 year, 2 years etc..)
5. make it expansive. 2 or 3 plex, added to the cost of character transfer.

to note: game mechanics such as contact list would be updated to show the "new" name of the toon. your contact list wouldn't be wiped and you would still be able to track the "reds" in local.

I like the idea, in that the name change can only be performed upon transferring the character from one account to another, and can only be peformed if the character is bounty free (no using it to escape bounty) and if you search for the character under the new name, the report reads something like
'the scumbag now goes by the name of ...., and I've located them in xxx solar system'
this DOES tell them that the character's moved from one account to another, which is both a good and a bad thing.....

For posting an idea into F&I: come up with idea, try and think how people could abuse this, try to fix your idea - loop the process until you can't see how it could be abused, then post to the forums to let us figure out how to abuse it..... If your idea can be abused, it WILL be.

No. If you want to pick your name, train them up from scratch like the rest of us.

If someone wants to pay for a name-change then I'm happy, it makes CCP richer and can improve the game quicker. Just add a name change and account change event to the employment history.

That means you can get a name change for your own 'toon for the reasonable price of transferring that 'toon to another one of your own accounts plus the name-change fee. So essentially 3 PLEX for a name change, or 5 if you want to put him back on his original account.

I think many scammers and Awoxers would be more than happy to pay a half-dozen PLEX to clean their slate and keep their skills. A clean slate is incredibly valuable in EVE.

Just imagine name-changing a five year old character - all the benefits of an old character, and you can even provide a full API key to the CEO of your next juicy corp-theft target, and he will be none the wiser.

Aside from those strategical benefits, there's also the issue of the premise of the game. CCP intends EVE to be a game in which your actions and choices, both good and bad, malicious or mistake, are supposed to have meaning and consequence within the game world, and they run the game according to those ideas. Your character's name is one of the most fundamental choices you make in EVE. Aside from choosing the size of your ears, your name is the first thing you pick when you make a character, and the last thing you leave behind when you quit.

It seems to me that the name of a character is as much a part of the product as the skillpoints, and you should plan accordingly when buying and (especially) when selling.

Oh, also, this isn't the facebook, we're not here to "like and favorite" your forum post. It's not good form to beg for internet points. Not even on the internet.

the previous actions of that toon and what that toon has acquired are part of that toon, and he is searchable only by his name. def no to name changes

u can either buy the name of a toon u like, or create ur own and name them as u like.

I could get behind the idea if it cost plex and an "alias" tab was added to the character sheet. Agent search would yield Alias results as well as the new name.

Names have consequences.

Buying characters has consequences.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

absolutely not. This is pretty much equivalent to being able to pay CCP to make your character untraceable, which would be pretty horrible. Being able to trace toons across multiple owners is of critical importance to many people.

If you don't like the fact that you can't choose a character name, pay more for a toon with a better name. When you buy a toon you get the whole package. If you want the toon to feel more "yours" then you can train one yourself.

"**CCP is changing policy, and has asked that we discontinue the bonus credit program after November 7th. So until then, enjoy a super-bonus of 1B Blink Credit for each 60-day GTC you buy!"**

Never forget.

The single shard nature of EVE means actions generate reputations, good and bad, and consequences follow. Introducing name changes would dilute or destroy this very important and somewhat unique (in my experience) aspect, and for what benefit? So you don't have to have an alt called Humpy McHump (which would be an awesome name anyway).

If you don't like a characters name, don't buy it. There are plenty more on the bazaar of wonders to chose from.

(As an aside, I don't like the ability to sell characters either).

I'm alright with a name change, even without an account swap, for a heavy price (2 Plex or so).

However, it needs the following caveats:

1.) It retains its old name too. Not only does the name change appear on the employment history tab (or more appropriately, on an alias tab), but every link to that toon is automatically updated with the toon's new identity. All player notes, all player contacts, etc, remain tied to that toon.

2.) If you link the old character and show info on it, it brings up info on your character, no matter what you are calling it.

3.) You cannot take the name of a previously used character.

The truth is, I do not care what you are called. I just care that your character's history follows your character... forever!

In Eve we have characters, not toons ffs.

Also I hope you realise your limitation to bought characters, isn't a limitation. It would still be be open to all. If you are buying a character, then the name is a part of that deal and compromise.

Oh look this thread again.

Still no. your name is the first impression, the first thing everyone sees in in chat, in system, in space. I know people by reputation, by action, and whatnot, and all of that is tied to me recognizing them by their name.

-1 to anything that can permit someone to change their name.

i'm not saying i have all the answers.. all i'm saying is that it could be done in a way that name change wouldn't provide a clean character..

No. This would be abused.. character laundering would become a popular thing. Part of the draw back for committing offenses in game should be that the rep could possibly make it harder to unload the character in the bazaar.

  - remove the cloaked from local; free intel is the real problem, not  "afk" cloaking -
