scanning down abandoned drones.

I found 4 abandoned drones on my dscanner in a mission area. I know they were abandoned as they were there about 8 hrs without a ship. I have been unable to scan them down to collect them with my combat probes, mainly as Im struggling with the interface.

Are there any keyboard short cuts to drop all my probes on top of my ship or within 1au of my ship? Is anyone willing to enter a skypes video call and walk me through the process of scanning things down properly (payment rates can be discussed).

So far I have got them narrowed down with dscanner to distance, I just cant drop my probes within 4au of myself.

Ive got the spot narrowed downed with dscan and booked marked it. I've warped out to a stargate. Im trying to drag the silver cross on top of the book mark, but it wont go. This is gonna be something really stupid and basic Im sure. Its also very frustrating watching my probes blue circles get dragged round and around my bookmark and ship, being unable to drop them on top of either. It seems to want to send them out to a certain orbit around the star itself and wont come into the system.

combat drones are pretty small so I'd recommend using a tutorial on scanning and using core probes instead of the combat probes as they can sacn down to 0.25 AU. Also go back with a scanning ship for the bonuses if you really want those drones

Well I found out why I couldn't drag my cross onto the bookmark, only took a couple of hours. You have to drag it to a partially revealed site it seems. I soon as I got a 2% sig in the inner system I selected that site on the scaned list and dragged the cross onto it. After that things went more smoothly, but I cant get a stronger signal then 20% even when I've got the cross sat on top of my book mark. Guess its just bad skills from here out. I'd say good practise, but I only learnt one very basic thing and it took me a few hours to do that.

Anyone offering combat scanner lessons, feel free to evemail.

Don't worry about bookmarks.

Open system map and scanner, launch 8 probes and set the probes to a pinpoint formation, free drag them roughly to where you want to scan and then scan.

The scan will give you a red or yellow dot for anything in its range (most of the time, there are a couple of error conditions to interpret).

Drag the probes about until they are centered on the dot you are interested in, and then reduce the scan range of the probes so they are all closer to the target. Rinse and repeat until it goes green and you can warp to it.

There are some filters for getting rid pos module spam off a scan for ships. After you use filters and try to scan something else, you may need to press the "show" link to get rid of the filters.

One error condition are "2 dots for 1 signature". This means it was on the edge of 3 of the probes range, if you have a dot in the middle and a dot on the outside, the actual place to recenter is on the dot on the outside. There are other permutations of that effect.

another common error condition is the "red ring", that means that it was hit by 2 probes only, so you can either interpret the ring vs your probes to see where 2 probes were or center on the ring and increase the scan range of your probes so they all cover the ring.

A last error condition is the red sphere, that means either you have never hit it with probes, or you have hit it with only 1 probe.
