Just purchased a Astro A40 Headset and let me tell you, these things are awesome. Upgrading from Turtle Beach and they are an all around improvement. They use Optical audio cable, which was a first for me. Really cool thing and I can't wait till I get an audio card to improve it.

+1 to Astro headsets incase someone was looking for a new set.

Cool Headsets thread?

I don't have an optical out on my dinky laptop but the Jabra USB headset I have works pretty well. Much better than using my iphone headset..

Umm Sony studio monitors with http://www.modmic.com/

I don't buy headsets anymore. I just use a regular pair of decent, non fashion statement headphones. I have them currently plugged into the back of the computer but I've been looking around for a good USB soundcard.

using:

Pioneer HDJ-1500W (white) headphones.. awesome

Samson G-Track USB condenser microphone makes me sound like i'm broadcasting from a sound booth

unparalleled by anything that functions as headphones and a microphone in the same unit.

I use Philips Fidelio X1 with a Creative Sound Blaster X-FI USB sound card.

I did spend basically all my savings on it, but totally worth it.

Combine with .flac audio rips of your favourite music for best results. Oh, that sound.... Oops

I was thinking about this. If your onboard sound already supports Dolby Digital Live/surround I would not waste money on a sound card since you are using the optical connection on the "astro mix amp" or whatever they call it. I doubt there would be any noticeable difference.

I don´t know if its my age, cultural upbringing or way of thinking, but I usually do pretty well with Chinese 10$ headphones that also have mikes on them, they usually wear out after 2 years and I get a new one no problem.

Current cheap set is OKAHAMA and the box was plain white with red letters that said HEADPHONE.

I use Astro A50s. Love the wireless ability, wish the battery life was longer thoughCry

But they are bloody amazing. Most comftorble headset I've ever worn, and insane sound quality.

I own a soundblaster card, but due to the slot being under the triple-slot video cards, I have to use an extender ribbon to keep the card plugged in, and then it dangles precariously from the back of the case. ...sometimes locking my system with power issues. so I don't use it. but to push enough power to the headphones without the amplified audio jack of the soundblaster card, I use a boostaroo audio amplifier

there are 15 of us with unique accounts, and ten are currently inactive ishtar pilots. for when I must "bring it" ...."solo"

...not that 5, 6, myself, 8, and 9 don't bring it. i suppose "bring it" is subjective... 10k automated dps in subcaps sounds good

I sure would like to get me decent headset, but the fact I am wearing glasses doesn't help. With "over-the-ear" headsets, the arms get pressed into my skull which becomes painful in minutes.

I am going with an "on-ear" Sennheiser right now, but it's almost falling apart after years of abuse.

Just find a comfortable pair of headphones and get a tabletop mic or the modmic.com, Will be alot better then any headset you can find.
