Destroyers versus Assault Frigates...your opinion?

I just trained up assault frigates and found I can do level III security missions with no difficulty.

Waiting for my destroyer skills to complete. Wondering if a destroyer can do level IV or do I have to go with a cruiser?

Your AF will have better luck in a IV than a dessy or cruiser. Reason being is that AF's have very small sig, high speed, and good tanks. A tech 1 cruiser or dessy don't have the small sig or the speed to avoid as much damage as an AF, and they don't have the slots or hp to tank those hits while still outputting enough DPS to kill thinks quickly. A battlecruiser can usually get enough tank to to IV's but are usually very slow with low DPS due to the slots they used for their tank.

You best bang for the isk/training is a tech 1 battleship.

Cool!!

Im was very surprised at the performance of my assault frigate. So my next step will be a battleship. Thanks for the feedback.

If you are running missions, use neither. They both had abysmal DPS. A cruiser will be netting you more isk with less effort.

They're both terrible ideas, but an assault frigate has a better chance of surviving and completeing. A destroyer has zero chance, and most cruisers have no chance.

I would definitely still move up one ship size at a time. Flying cruisers takes getting used to after flying frigates - they're slower, it's harder to hit things with them, they're less agile, etc. And battleships exponentially even more so. Jumping from frigates straight to battleships will leave you in tears (and probably a wreck or two).

Have fun with your AF and keep up the good work!
