New player, low skill friendly ship

I looked at the battleclinic ships and fittings and all the high ranked ships have a minimum of 20+ days traing requirements.

I am wondering if there is a Caldari ship build that I can use sooner? I have more missile skills trained than turrets, so something using them would be best.

Thank you

PvP or PvE?

Small gang/solo or medium/large fleet?

Mission running or anomalies/complexes?

Oops. the role is pretty important I guess!

Ideally a ship that would do well in solo pvp, and maybe small gang if I find a corp. But solo FW PVP for now will suit me perfectly.

Kestrels and Condors are pretty good. They don't require much SP to use effectively, but you will have to work out how to fly them properly.

For your basic description, a light missiles fit Condor would be your best option IMO.

The missiles will give you range so you can kite and stay out of range of brawling ships that will eat you quickly if you get too close and become tackled.

With the 4-4-2 slot arrangement the fitting should be relatively straight forward.

  • Missile launchers in the highs
  • MWD, Disruptor and 2 shield mods in the mids (potentially 1 of the shield mods to plug the EM resist hole)
  • Nanofibers or Warp Core stabs in the lows to either increase speed further (at the expense of hull) or provide for escape if you do get too close to a brawling ship

Basic strategy would be to control range with your speed and keep the opponent pointed while your missiles do their thing.

The Condor is amazing for this purpose. It can get a lot done with minimal skill investment, although the missile support skills will be a big one.

But they come in handy later down the road too, so I wouldn't class those as not being newbie friendly, either.

also ignore the person who suggested warp core stabs on lows.
damage control, nano, damage mods are the things you might expect in a caldari lows. warp core stabs are for people that want to avoid fights not people that want fights.

The Condor's naturally fast, and well-suited to mid-range "kiting" missile combat, as well as long-range tackle in frigate and "dessie down" operations. The Kestrel can be set up as either a rocket-armed brawler (I actually fly an armor-plated variant, which leaves me room for some heavy tackling options) or a long-range missile sniper.

I have looked at various fits/loadouts for the Condor, Kestrel and the Merlin. I really would like to learn one ship for now until I am good at it. Can someone please have a look at the loadouts I found and tell me if they are any good? Out of them all I prefer the Merlin simply because I only need 1 day of training for it. But if that load is outdated or just plain bad I will be willing to train into the other ships even if it takes longer. But once I pick a ship I will stick to it until I am good with it.

Merlin: http://eve.battleclinic.com/loadout/67420-Noob-Entry-PVP-Merlin-v2-Odyssey-1-0.html
I will need 12 hours of training

Condor: http://eve.battleclinic.com/loadout/65426-Condor-Cheap-Low-skill-PvP.html
I will need 2 days of training

Kestrel: http://eve.battleclinic.com/loadout/66992-Kestrel-173-dps-brawler.html
I will need 8 days of training

Can you suggest alternative loadouts for a new pilot that currently has 200k SP?

Caldari frigs straight-up suck solo. The options are awful, you can either fit dual web with rocket to hold a target in place but deal with awful DPS because you have to try and shoehorn a decent armor tank into your two low slots, or you go MWD and LM and have no fitting room left for any tank at all and get chewed up by drones because the ship is still too freakin slow to get out of its own way. To make matters worse, if you even dare affix a BCS or invuln field to come up with a fit that's actually decent, you'll have to consider downgrading or giving up your DCU and losing a rig slot for overclocking.

I would appreciate advice on an alternative race, ship and loadout

Breacher is the best T1 frig making use of rockets and shield, never hard to get a nibble from blaster boats hoping to break the tank. Talwars are LM beasts, with a ~1500 DPS volley it's pretty tough to even approach these without getting raped. Minmatar overall performs better with missiles and shields simply because they're fast enough to really take advantage of the range benefits of missiles and speed benefits of shields. Caldari for some silly reason is the slowest race overall despite using shields.
