Taking the plunge

Hi and thank you for reading this post.

I have been playing about 2 weeks now and I have dont many different things to find out what I enjoy doing. One thing that has interested me right from the start is PvP. I was hoping that someone could recommend me a good ship and loadout to start learning pvp with. I know EVE is not like other MMO's that has cookie cutter builds/specs, but there are so many ships and equipment out there that it is difficult to even beging making the decision.

I know learning the neccesary skills might take time, so I dont mind delaying my intro to pvp for a week while I learn the skills needed for the specific ship.

I got solo kills with this with less than 2 months worth of SP. You'll learn all the basics of PvP without the hassle of learning the gunnery tracking system. Only problem is that missile systems are all terrible past rockets and LMLs.

There's any number of groups willing to help, and are explicitly aimed at getting new folks into PvP.

- Brave Newbies
- Red vs Blue
- EVE University

If you're more the "jump off the deep end and pray" type, then Faction Warfare could be an excellent bet. Check out this thread for FW corps that are active and recruiting.

We Gallente have a saying: "CCP created the Gallente Militia to train the Fighters..."

From what I read about FW it sounds like a mix of pve and pvp? How would I go about getting into it? I am not against joining a corp to learn, but I also dont want to be a drain on the corp. I would prefer having some skill at it at least before I embarrass myself before people I will be playing with.

I take joining a corp seriously because other people invest their into getting to know me and sharing their experience and skills with me. The least I can do is do the best I can and know some things before I join. Therefore I dont think it is right just to join a group of people to use them for my own purposes.

Sorry if that sounds odd, but I dont necessarily agree with the attitude that seems to be throughout eve, the attitude that everyone else is prey. Therefore I will be taking my time to learn, and only once I can add value to a corp will I apply.

#1 Don't ever feel stupid about your skills. You're going to make mistakes, everybody does. And you're going to lose ships to stupid/dumb reasons, everybody does. Probably the hardest part in PvP'ing is knowing that all you lose is ISK, and that every ship you own will die.

There are a lot of newb friendly corps out there. You want to learn skills, they want an extra pilot. It's a give and take situation. You learn how to PvP and they get an extra pilot in their fleets, defending their home systems, and attacking the enemy home systems. I'd suggest looking through the FW corp list (Its currently floating around this forum), pick a side you like and go for it.

Don't worry two seconds about that. In fw anyone willing to learn. Get on comms and fly a frig is useful. You will die. But every body is needed.... Evil monkeys do daily PvP roams for UK timezone players and take fresh pilots.... There are tons others as well for whatever tz you play in

Or just pick a side. Join its militia solo. Talk in militia chat. Unfuck your overview. Ask for a link on the guide and go out and die

You will make friends and after awhile can join someone's corp that you feel good with.

Enjoy PvP!

http://www.factionwarfare.com/recruiting-corps/

Here you have some of the active and recruiting corps for all the factions in FW with basic info and short description. If you are willing to learn and fight 90% of them will welcome you with open arms. The other 10% are corps with specific requirements about skill points, language used or time zone activity. Some of them are created exactly for purposes of training new and low on skill points pilots.

Shoot them all! Be polite.

More importantly, fw is about the only real pvp activity from which you can fund your pvp and quite easly. All you need is to learn the mechanics and that can teach you any of the corps already enlisted.

Thank you for all the good advice. I am going to train the racial frigate skill I need for the Frigate that was recommended. Once I have that done I will look for a good Gallente FW Corp (My alt that will be doing pvp).

Just a last question, if I focus on getting the mastery certificates (I to V) will I be learning all the neccesary skills or will there be others I would also need to train? As an example I looked at some of the ship certificates but they dont appear to have skills in the mastery for 'tackling'.

ISIS and the new mastery levels has been a really good addition to the game, however in my view the skills listed for the various mastery levels aren't quite right yet. There are some strange skills for some ships that you really don't need to concentrate on, except to gain the mastery level.

In general, however they are a reasonable guide.

My suggestion would be base around the mastery system, but use it as a guide to focus on:

1. Ship skills to the highest level (because ships normally have bonuses based on the level of the skill you have)
2. Relevant bonused modules (guns, webs, etc. based on the hull bonuses for the ship)
3. Core fitting skills (which are helpful not only for fitting the ship you are aiming for, but are transferable to any ship)
4. Additional useful pvp skills (tackling skills, resists, rigging, etc.)

In relation to the first part of your reply, there is a thread in here (you've probably seen it) that lists active FW Corps for each race. It's a good guide to player run FW Corps to look at and the link provided above is related to that also.

That kestral fit Baron posted is the ****. Pretty much my #1 ship. However if you are going to go ahead and join FW I would suggest waiting to train into it until you pick a corp. There are quite a few other easy to get into ships you can fly and you might find the corp you join has a specific one they like. A lot of Galls throw down in derptrons for instance. I would just get in contact with someone of that FacWar list as soon as possible. They will fill you in on what they need from you and you'll be shooting bads in no time.

Try all sorts of different fits, mess around and see what works. If it dies, it dies. Who cares? Poorly fit experimental ships have the added bonus of making your killer feel like less of a man.

Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?
