My concern is the high-school/bro culture that is prevalent here in eve. Children are so easily impressed upon and pick up things really fast, whether they like it or not.

Regardless though, whether it's games, movies or whatever the medium is that influencing your kids the most important factor is you. How they witness you using, interacting or reacting to these things.

What I do remember from some of my earliest days was watching '80s horror movies with my dad, stuff like Friday the 13th and other stuff that would make parents of today recoil in horror. The biggest memories I took from that beyond any blood or gore was how much my dad used to laugh his arse off at it all, while eagerly explaining to me that it's just pretend and in fact is quite ridiculous. I turned out pretty much the same, still find Jason Voorhees funny as **** and believe Freddy Krueger is just lame in comparison.

Absolutely. I have this arguement with my wife all the time. If your kids see you're not scared of, say, Friday the 13th, then they too will look at it and laugh at how utterly ******** that movie is. I loved it! It was hilarious to watch him do the crap he did, and the overacted, stupid people he chased. Although, the newer one by I believe Rob Zombie (I could be wrong) kicked azz.

My daughter's 10. I don't get much time with my kids, I'm up nights (I simply can not sleep during dark hours, too many years doing grave yard shift) and so they simply don't get to spend much time with me. They come home from school, see I've hopped on Eve, and get to their homework so they can park it next to me (my 6 year old son is my copilot) and hope on the laptop (my 10 year old daughter). She's struggling a tiny bit through the tutorials but I told her, if you want to play, do the tutorials. I've played since 2008 off and on, I STILL hit up tutorials when I have a need to know something!

And, me starting all over again puts us on equal footing. And, in the game, I'm not "Dad". I'm "MutnantRebel". It's a time to let formality relax and pretend to be something else for a while, just as if I sat with her to a tea party. We've discussed the fact that local and other chats will be full of adult content and is to be ignored. She's only allowed to chat with that which is approved, some people just don't care about a person's age, mentally or otherwise, and let whatever fly out of their finger tips. That's fine, but she needs to understand that not all of the things in chat is appropriate for her. And, I think she does. Also, here, I can show her hard work isn't everything. Work hard to reach your goals, yes, but work SMARTLY in order to actually SEE those goals.

LOL I don't know what she's going to do when I inform her that at some point, we'll likely be a Pirate Corp LMAO. "Gasp! You mean we're going to ROB people!!???"

Trailer Trash and proud of it!

Imagine the faces of people when they find out they've been owned by a 12 year old FCing a 50 man fleet..

Ok, so she's not 12 yet, it just means she has 2 years to learn more about Eve and it's mechanics, before you give her the reins and unleash her onto the unsuspecting universe.

Did you crash their blanket party while screaming "GANK!"

Would be even better if you wore an old wife-beater t with pork chop grease stains on it while you did... you know... just to get into character...

Your kids are going to grow up to be armed robbers, or Wall Sreet traders.

Armed robbers are more ethical, so making a pirate corp would be a good thing.

If i had kids, i wouldn't expose them to EvE at such an early age. I'd find a lighter space/sci-fi genre for them to exercise their imaginations with, but definitely not EvE.

Actually, it can introduce them to many good and bad things in a playful manner.

Lol Yup. I came out and my kids were all "The station was blown up and we had to get our pods out!" LOL

I found it cute as all get out, my son's 6 and my daughter 10, who's now flying in the corp I made just for us, and the both of them had a blanket over the coffee table and this was their "pod". Then they came out and said they were podded and had to go to their rooms to their other clones LOL.

Man, this could get pretty interesting! believe I have created monsters! Alas, this is why Eve is great tho! Imagination sparked by CCP is the greatest part of the product they've produced, giving people the ability to truly reach for the stars! To own them even.

THANK YOU CCP! YOU GUYS ARE GREAT!

I used to play EVE with my step daughter's little girl on my lap (to hell with missing a big fight because I had to baby sit lol). Back then I was in NCdot and a lot of times we'd fly Abbadons agaisnt Goon Maelstroms. Goons would bring A Bomber Wing all the time. Very many times I'd see Bombers Decloak and see bombs appear on over view and instictivly yell "Bomb". Eventually, my step-granddaughter stopped being startled at the word.

Which is why right now there is a 3 year old girl in North Texas who dos not play EVE, but who's very first word wasn't dada or momma....it was BOMB!

FYI: Goon Recruitment pays out a 500M isk referral bonus for each school age kid that you get to sign up for their Goon Space School Cadre. (They have stay in the Goon Space School Cadre for at least six months.)

It's how I pay to PLEX my account nowadays. Also, there's at least one charter school in Atlanta where EVE players need to watch their backs.

Pon Farr Memorial: once every 7 years, all the carebears in high-sec must PvP or they will be temp-banned.

As far as LARPing goes, I had people on the forums laughing hard when I told them what I did to get over the "EVE withdrawls" last June when EVE got shut down from those attacks.

I was on vacation from work (which of course is WHY EVE was down for several days, I must have pissed off some Nordic God in a past life or something and EVE was made to torment me). I had my Step-Son's boys over and we make paper airpplanes all the time for "air to air combat". This time I decided to get a bag of rubber bands and make some paper planes and wrote names on the wings. The most priceless moment was when my 6 year old step-grandson asked me "what are you writing on the wings?".

I was righting "Corpus Pope", "Corpus Harbinger", "Dark Blood Arch Bishop" and such on the wings. Then the boys got to shoot rubber bands at the paper airplanes I launched (I made them with folded up wing ends so they would loop in the air instead of just flying forward, sometiems they would float down in a kind o spiral dive) and i gave them a quarter for every one that were able to shoot down (2 quaters for the dark blood).

Yep, while everyone else who plays EVE Online was going through withdrawls, I was running Blood Raider anomalies in my Den. Even got an escalation when one of the boy's rubber bands hit one of my wife's ceramic figurines and broke it. Wife escaltions are WAy harder to tank than 10/10s......

Letting 10 year old girls play this game is guaranteed to end badly. The average EVE player hearing a girl on teamspeak will start linking porn and talking about all of the dirty things they want to do to her, and probably won't even think about how old she may, or may not, be.

This is why she's not allowed to chat on public chat. Other than to see who's in local, so she can determine friend, neut, or foe.

So did you tell your kids to send you their allowance money so you can double it?

You know, to teach them a harsh lesson.

Other than that, props for making sure your kids enjoy a rather difficult game like EVE.

I just undocked for the first time and someone challenged me to a duel. Wat do?

Good to see parents taking their responsibility, allowing their kids a much greater experience, like enjoying Eve online. When monitored it's actually a pretty neat game, especially as once you get past the surface layer of the community. Alot of people in Eve are great & helpful, as long as you take responsibility & are willing to learn, a quality that is great for kids to see & learn (just need a responsible parent to shield m from the surface layer Blink )

Keep up your parenting, and perhaps one day your kids will be leading alliances to war once they grow up Twisted

Christmas Eve was a get-together at my grandmother's house (and, sadly, the last one I'll have with her. RIP nana. :*( ), and as usual my immediate family and i got there hours early. So I helped set everything up and then pulled out the laptop for some game play before I had to socialize. My uncle, aunt, and three-year-old niece Maggie showed up. My uncle is a commander in the Navy, and more importantly with the SEALs. His daughter takes after him, and myself (a Marine captain).

So anyways I'm flying about, and a guy on our teamspeak server is just talking **** to me. I have headphones on because no one should hear that, and also the niece is on my lap. After fifteen minutes of listening to him swear and talk crap, my niece tugs on my coat sleeve. Looking down, she gives me the most innocent look and says:

"After you blow up his ship, tell him to go **** himself!"

She then hops off my lap and runs giggling to her father, leaving both myself and him stunned. Apparently she could hear it. :D

Leadership is something you learn. Maybe one day, you'll learn that.

Appears to me as though the kids have to compete with a video game for the attention of their father.
