Another simple idea (that's all my brain copes with):

The dislike button on forums posts. This will allow a balanced view of an idea to be gained by all involved.

Many likes/low dislikes - probably an idea worth investigating

Many dislikes/not many likes - probably pointless

even likes/dislikes with a significant number of each - potential to be a conflict driver

gazillion dislikes - OP probably didn't search for the umpteen threads that were already shot down containing their idea Big smile

The dislike button itself will be a conflict driver and I don't think it's the kind of conflict that the forums need. Essentially, people are more likely to vote against something they disagree with than they are to vote for something they agree with. Basically, it just creates negativity and petty grudges.

Actually that's a good point, I assumed people would use such a button on a reasoned and considered basis. It would be nice to be able to get a feel for the prevailing opinion in posts without having to trawl 60-odd pages on the bigger ones though.

I support a dislike button, but would ask that likes and dislikes are counted separately so people can also brag about how many dislikes they have.

Things are only impossible until they are not.

If facebook does not support a dislike button, it is probably for a good reason. The same rationales apply here too.
