Hey CCP, remember us, artists? How about another Design Contest? Last one was ships, maybe this time you give us some other task? Stations perhaps, POS-es, something? It is not about prices, it is about us players contributing to visual appearance of EVE. Last time you organised this, we got Tornado and what not, so that came out good, right? Think about it at least. Guys, support this please! Thank you! :)

As long as we're stuck with Control Towers for another 5 years, they could use a snazzy graphical update.

I'd definitely support this. Getting players involved in changing EVE's landscape long term is exactly the kind of initiative players need and want. Being able to allow players of all types to get involved, whether through game play or art or lore, is a great idea when well executed.

maybe a good way too speed up ship remodels rather than wait for CCP to change 2-3 ships a year ..

Yeah... +1 to this. At least we can help CCP's design team a bit.

Not that they really need help, because they are doing a great job (I still can't take my eyes off those Amarr Navy battleships Smile), so no pun intended Blink.

It won't actually speed anything up. The conceptualization is the short and easy part. The real work that takes forever is actually creating the model.

Another real bottleneck is Quality Assurance and Testing, which bumps the process backwards several steps every time they find something wrong.

Hosting a contest for the concept art won't speed anything up. It will actually slow everything down.

Instead of one concept art being drawn over the course of a single day and vetted in the following few, we have to wait weeks for the contestants to finish their submissions (because they aren't being paid to do it on a short deadline), then weeks for the judges to narrow down the submissions, then another week for players to vote on them.

Only after all that waiting does the actual development start.

Congratulations, we just wasted half a development cycle on the concept art alone, and haven't even built a working model and texture set yet.

You could probably submit various designs to CCP just any time, if you wanted. Of course they'd have to be really good and they'd have to be in the pre-defined format and they would absolutely have to have the appropriate legal documentation waiving all rights of any kind and granting CCP full intellectual property of your submission with no hope for any future credit or recompense or royalty as a result of your submissioin ever being used.

Though even then, CCP's legal department might still send you a C&D letter.

Definitely something that should be done again. The first and last design contest contains some very interesting concepts. Shocked And some questionable things...
