I heard lotsa horror stories about EVE before I started playing. Evil players, back-stabbing, nothing but a buncha bastards.

Now, this very well may be true, but I just had a really great thing happen thanks to another player.

I was Ratting a Serpentis Den, when another player joins me..a much better player. He starts just sweeping up the targets and blowing them away. I figured I wouldn't have much of chance to loot much, but eh, I'm having fun just killing stuff. When we cleared the site, he blues all of his loot drops. Nice thing to do, I thought. So I just said "Thanks" in local, and went on my merry way.

A few minutes later he donates 20mil ISK to me (which is 3 times my current bank account). Yeah, I know 20mil isn't much to the veteran players, but it meant a lot to me.

Now, I'm a cynical misanthrope just like most of us here, but that one brief encounter actually made me feel better about humanity...for a little while at least.

Of course tomorrow, he might be the guy blasting me into little metal pieces... P

Damn I love this game. Why the hell didn't I play this sooner?

*edit* thanks

See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did.

You encountered basic human interaction? In a sandbox MMO?

You should get out more.

You can send me those 20mil and I'll double it

Everytime you read this you are required to send 100 million isk directly to me.

I agree completely and I'm happy to see fellow newbros greeted like that!

Something similar happened to me when I was still very new:

One experienced player gave me a Fed Navy Comet after I lost mine in a mission. At that point I had been only 2 weeks into the game or so and I had made the mistake of buying one with the first 20 Million ISK I had... Flew a level 2 with it and boom.

I still have that Comet. It reminds me of the fact that there are some really generous and nice people out there.

Of course we are not at fluffypark online here and the grim reality of new eden is all over the place. But a humane gesture here and there can go a long way and become a gem of memory, long to be remembered.

Every atom in our bodies was forged in the furnace of ancient stars - it's time we return home.

Occasionally a Eve player will show kindness and compassion just don't get used to it, or expect it. Especially the latter. More often than not we just take advantage of you.

One of the last acts of kindness I showed someone was a guy just started playing fairly recently so I put a bounty on him, than gave him double that bounty in an isk donation. The bounty was a reminder to assume that someones always after you, fly safe. And isk was just to help him along his way since he just started out so there be less of an isk grind since he was new.

Sometimes I help out a new player like this, the way I see it is if I can help keep a new player in the game they will become either the hunter or the prey latter on.

Welcome to Eve. Everyone here is an Evil Sick Sadistic Bastard who is out to get you. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either trying to scam you or use you.

Actually human interaction would be more on par with EVE's cutthroat mentality than it would people actually donating time/money to someone.

New players can make that quick. Take the mining trainer first so you get the ore mining frigate then mine away. BTW we will see how much it rocks in 2015 when chris roberts releases star citizen.

I firmly believe the average morals of all players in EVE is quite similar to other games. However, EVE players tend to take things to extremes. There are those who do nothing but kill, steal and generally ruin someone's day (great fun, really). There are also those who will give new players enough isk to cover any ship they will need in the near future, and take them under their wing and teach them everything they know (lots of warm fuzzy feelings, also good). Good and bad, these people are what makes EVE special; a sandbox that spits out stories like no other.

Now get out there, and make some stories.

Wasn't the release date already 2016? I recall reading that somewhere couple weeks back.

Also, why in the name of raptorjesus are people comparing Eve to SC? One is a internet spaceships spreadsheet simulator with enough tears which when distilled would provide drinking water for the entirety of continental Africa. The other one is wow in space.

Worst case scenario is the ones who should be playing wow in the first place **** off, which I only see as an improvement.

Damn bro. I'm so sorry.

Listen, I've saved your name. When I log on later, I'll look you up so I can change your mind.

Again, I'd like to apologize that you had a positive experience in a game that everyone hates, is terrible and is dying.

It happens more often then you think.

Yesterday we caught a retriever mining in a c1, podded him of course, but something was off - too easy.

So I talked to him, turned out he was new - he found a high-sec hole and was popping in and out. So i told him how to avoid being probed down, and refunded his ship + plus a lil extra.

More noobs that stick around - more fun for all of us later on.
