Enemy:

tracking speed :0.7 rad/sec
orbiting at: 12,000m
optimal: 12,000m
speed: 250m/s

You:
signature radius: 100m

At what speed should you be moving to dodge all the enemys firing?

whoops, misread that, deleted

EDIT Try this:

I just undocked for the first time and someone challenged me to a duel. Wat do?

You're missing some info:

  • Enemy's guns' signature resolution
  • What direction you're (going to) moving in, relative to his orbit

Also, you need to consider the effect of moving quickly on the trajectory of the ship orbiting you. If it has to play "catch-up" to try to keep up with you, it will no longer technically be orbiting. It will be doing something like approaching as you move away, which greatly helps its tracking.

Lastly, 0.7 rad/s is enormous tracking! It's approximately the tracking of a Dramiel (tracking-bonused) with 125mm autocannons! That sort of tracking is hard to avoid even at short range and in a tiny ship, so I'm afraid that at 12 km it may be impossible to dodge without breaking Eve's physics engine by going too fast.

If those guns are medium guns you would need to go about 24k/sec (orbit speed, given values are transversal velocity) to mitigate 99.99% of all damage.
Around 72k/sec if its small guns.

If we take optimal range out of the equation, as you've done, the limit for when you are next to impossible to hit is when:

(transversal × signature resolution) / ( range × tracking speed × signature radius) > 2.

With your numbers, we reach that when ( x ± [0–250] ) × signature resolution > 1,680,000.

That first factor depends on your relative transversal speed: are you flying in line with or against his travel vector, or on some angle in-between? Also, note that there is always a chance for a wrecking hit. “Next to impossible” in this context means that tracking you is as difficult as it it would be if you sat still at 2× falloff.

I just throw stuff together on my ships and go have fun.

See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did.

I tried that, but then an incursus 3v1'ed my entire gang... Twice.

Given this info, I should anything over 1000m/s ought let you dodge *nearly* all the enemy's firing.

0.7 rad/sec tracking at 12km screams small pulse lasers to me, and that means short falloff. If he's only going 250 m/s, 1000 m/s should take you out of falloff pretty quickly, although you only need to exceed 250 to eventually get away.

What if the Incursus pilot just threw it together and went and had fun....
