Ok don't have time to retype all that again. In a nutshell thanks for the replies. My feeling is that I had the equipage but the wrong tactics. What is the better procedure for a guy like me with minimal equipage and experience but who wishes to find some more lucrative ore? Like when approaching a strargate one should....? etc.

Thanks again!

Welcome to the forums created and maintained by Can't Code Properly.P

Tip from a Forum Regular....Notepad.

When done typing your post copy your post to Notepad...or start by typing it in notepad in the first place.
In case the forum eats your posts (hey, Forums need food too to survive, they can't live on tears alone), you can just copy/paste it from Notepad.

EDIT:

You could have replied to the other thread, you didn't have to make a new thread for thanking people answering in your other thread. It doesn't really make sense either, as they might not even see this thread

Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy

Help channel: Help chat - Reloaded

Public roams channels: RvB Ganked / Redemption Road / Spectre Fleet / Bombers bar / The Content Club

I learnt early on, always select all and copy before you click post Lol or do as JP said and use notepad.

But yeah, continue the discussion on the other thread, you have me confused P (not hard sometimes but...)

Quoted from Doc Fury: "Concerned citizens: Doc seldom plays EVE on the weekends during spring and summer, so you will always be on your own for a couple days a week. Doc spends that time collecting kittens for the on-going sacrifices, engaging in reckless outdoor activities, and speaking in the 3rd person."

Ok, I REALLY hate when people do this, but in your case it is justified.

Stay out of lowsec (.4 and below) space (there I did it, I told a newbie to stay out of lowsec, now I hate myself...). As a solo miner you WILL die eventually, and most likely before you even get to a belt and start mining, as you have so recently learned. Even a miner with a ton of skillpoints dedicated to mining and an awesome mining ship would have likely died to the guys that got you. If you wish to mine better ores, I believe there are mining anomalies that appear in high security space which spawn higher tier ores than are commonly found in the belts.

That being said, one imprtant thing to look at is if those shiny ores are actually 'better'... Last time I was paying attention to the world of mining, scordite and veldspar were actually more profitable in ISK-per-hour than the 'high end' lowsec/nullsec ores. Throw in the inevitable ship losses, and the logistics of getting your ore out of lowsec space to a place where you can sell it, and the profitability of mining those lower grade ores climbs even higher.

Hmmm if he is intent on lowsec minong solo however I would have to disagree there... He could fit a cloak on a venture and mine an asteroid for 9km away, then if someone does come in system instantly cloak. (For the record I hate it when people do that...but I cant deny it works)

However that being said, Billy os right in its better to get ores atm from hisec. Scordite was all the rage isk/amount at one point (possibly still is) so...

Also, fit the venture with warp core stabilizers, they will help you get away from pirates. (Note they wont help you in the situations you just died in however, if they have enough ships to lock you in place).

The other thing to do would be to join a lowsec indy corp or a lowsec corp that has a dedicated indy side to it...

Edit: Expect to die. The sooner you realise that you will lose ships, the better at eve you will become. Ventures are relatively cheap too so you can throw them away many a time and start taking risks suce as wormhole raiding for ores, once you start bringing in the isk.

Yeah, whenever I'm about to click send, I do a Ctrl-A, Ctrl-C first.
It has become such a habit that I now even do that in email clients. (I spend too much time here...)

As for your question. Low-sec minerals aren't really that much better. The best low-sec mineral is about 30% more lucrative (by volume) than high-sec materials. Better than nothing? Sure. But it's not gonna make you rich. I'm pretty sure that the additional gain is not worth the risk, but then, it's much more exciting than high-sec mining and you might find that more fun.

In any case, if you venture into low-sec, be aware that the most dangerous gates are those that border into high-sec. If you really want to mine there, you should go deeper into low-sec and only rarely make the trip back to high-sec. Ideally you'd not do the dangerous trip back to high-sec with your ore yourself. Either sell it right there or contract it to someone else to move.

Oh and whenever you venture into low-sec, empty your cargo hold first. There was no need to lose those skill books.

And finally, mining is steady, but low income, only do it if you like it, don't do it to make ISK.
