sorry but I asked in a DEV post, and a GM post a few days ago and im just really confused about the EvE spams and email traps people are sending, how are these people getting hold of our actual e-mail address in the first place? im just wondering if theres a way to block people from access the info to get it. or are they getting this information from sites outside of the CCP forums and games?

Must be, I've never had an Eve-related spam email and I don't think CCP would let such personal info leak.

I have an email address I only use for video games including Eve. I never get any emails trying to steal my credentials there. If you are using the same email address other places those sites could be selling your info, or be the end customer for that info. CCP isn't giving it out so you can be scammed IRL. They are against that sort of thing.

I never receive spam emails, but thats probably because I dont give out my email to sites that make a living off selling personal information.

I pity the social-media generation.

That's what you get for playing Somer Blink or one of those 3rd party Scam sites.

I've never received EVE spam in 5 years.

Don't know if it has anything to do with it, but my mail server does use grey-listing (temporarily rejects e-mail for 5 minutes from any new sending server, until they resend after the time is expired).

I play Somer Blink and have never received any spam or Phishing emails related to Eve.

So much for your wishful thinking.

Cancel your Facebook account. Best thing I've ever done.

I don't give a damn about some person I went to high school with or their damn kids.
I don't give a damn about the pictures you took on your vacation in Belize.
I don't give a damn about the funny meme you post.
I don't give a damn about the missing child and being told that I have a moral obligation to share your dumbass post.
I don't give a damn about this ad or that ad.

I do give a damn about my privacy and I don't trust Facebook in the least. Best thing I've ever done.

Remember that "free trial membership" to that adult site that you thought looked fun?

I've never received spam on the email address I've used for Eve.

So I doubt CCP are to blame.

(I have many email addresses funnelling to a couple of places. So I know when somewhere loses my address. Like dropbox did)

I would like to see CCP add an authenticator to Eve but I don't think it's on their list of high priority things to do.

If you don't want your account hacked just be smart.

Have an updated OS with updated antivirus.

Don't click in game links... Anyone can make a link look like a contract or another players name. For example posted in local "Check out Billy Bobs bio"... You think you're clicking on a pilots bio but what you clicked on is a website that downloaded something malicious to your computer...

Use a secure email just for Eve... Yes it may be a pain but at least you know that when you receive an email claiming to be from CCP it probably is. Even so don't click links in any email. You can just type the address in your browser. Other MMOs customer information databases have been hacked but CCP flies below the radar because they're small. This doesn't mean be careless though.

I'm sure I left a few things out but the bottom line is be smart about what you do.

The best account protection is not being a dumbarse on the internet with emails & passwords. Best of luck.

Almost 8 years (woho its my b day!) and i have never received any mails like that, and have used the same mail address for the whole time Smile

As others have said, im guessing they are getting your address when you go to third party sites and similar, and while im sure some/most wont share your email information i would suggest that you use a "fake" email for this that you dont care if gets spammed.

I have a spam account email that i use when signing up for things on the internet. So all the crap gets sent to that one.

However, just because you get eve related phishing emails, does not mean CCP have been selling your email address.

I regularly get spam saying your 'WOW' account or your 'Diablo 3' account has been locked, please click here to reactivate.
I have NEVER played either of these games. (in fact I'd rather scoop out my eyes than play WOW)

I think once your email address gets out there with the knowledge that you are a gamer, you get sent spam based on whatever the popular game of the moment is....

What above person said.

I never receieved EvE related spam-mail. Still recieve some woW related spam (even tho I quit it for a few years now) & Rift related spam for some reason (despite me never playing it)

But tbh, considering how old my email adress is, the low amount of 'spam' shows I'm doing fine.
