I am a drone and gun user. I rarely even look at launchers.

With guns it's easy:
Short but more DPS: Autocannons, Blasters, Pulses
Long but less DPS: Artillery, Railguns, Beams
All subdivided into: Small, Medium, Large (and capital X-Large)
Very simple and concise.
It also so happens that small guns go on small ships, and medium guns go on medium ships.
And also so happens that medium guns are designed to shoot against medium ships (not enough tracking/resolution against small ships, not enough damage/range against large ships [to a degree, but you get my point]), and so on for each size group.

With launchers, it's: HAM, WAM, HAL, RLML, FML, WTF

The only thing i understand is:
Short but more DPS: Rockets
Long but less DPS: Light Missiles
Capital: Citadel

Where does everything else fall? I've counted 9 categories on the market, so it doesn't break into Small, Medium, Large with Short/Long for each group.
How does it progress from small ships, to medium, to large ships?
How does the intended target's size class fit into this?
And lastly any tips on how to remember all these names and their intended size class?

Thanks

There are 2 small launchers, 3 medium and 3 large. The rapid line of launchers use a downsized missile type on a bigger mount, and function as front-loaded burst weapons. In the medium class we have the RLM that uses light missiles, and in the large class we have the RHML that uses HMLs.
