RHML for pve

I was reading this forum a couple of days ago and saw a post saying the fleet typhoon was a great mission ship and could field a full flight of sentries along it's bonused missiles and could be shield tanked as well, so I went on EFT and toywed with it a bit, and tried the downgraded version on a regular Typhoon. I found that the dps I could get out of it (using 4 bcu and 3 DDA) was amazing using RHML, and I thought that while the range was a lot shorter than cruise and the ammo use would be way up, it'd be a fun ship to fly for angel/sansha/BR missions. (I currently use a Hyperion for most missions, planning on using a Kronos soon)
So I went ahead and bought one yesterday, rigged and fitted it, and then I tried to change ammo in space, only to see the 35s reload timer. I hadn't used rapid launchers since odyssey I believe, and there was no reload timer then, so I was a bit shocked when I found out.

Now, has anyone used these for pve? Are they actually usable in missions, or is the small magazine size and extreme reload time too much? I figured I could swap the 4th bcu for a 4th DDA to get some more sustained dps out of the bouncers/curators, but I haven't had time to test it in game or even in eft yet.

RHML are not worth using anywhere in my opinion. Generally speaking, Heavy missiles are not worth using due to damage application issues. "Rapid" launchers makes them even worse. I have run RHML on multiple ships and for the most part they were worse than every other available option.

Even if heavy missiles weren't borked, I doubt RHMLs would be worth using in PvE. The small clip+reload time just doesn't work well in that setting. The upside of the Rapid launchers is the fairly massive front-end dps, which really only makes sense in PvP, where you often need to make your kill fast.

EDIT: if you're going to use Rapid launchers in PvE, just know that nice dps number you show is actually much lower because of the lengthy reloads.

I originally went with the RHML because I have T2 HML, and not T2 Cruise. Seeing the numbers in eft and not knowing about the reload time "nerf", I thought they would be pretty cool to use.

I suppose I'll give it a whirl at least to see if I hate it, if so I'll have to settle with a Domi as a secondary BS.

I toyed with it for things like forsaken hubs and rally points for 900 dps out of a raven. (Everything spawns within 30km)

Problem is while it has alot of frontloaded dps. The reload time would gouge into the isk/tick

Only use rhml on ships with the right bonuses. Golem rni tfi and sni are the only "valid" ships that come to mind. Anything with a rof bonus should be ignored and anything with a damage amount bonus should be considered. People frequently complain about damage application but heavy missiles to a painted cruiser should apply most of their dps. I personally fiddle with the tfi because it has flexible engagement profiles and can be configured in like 6 different ways

My opinion is that for PVE, RHML's are a lousy primary weapon system, but a fine secondary weapon system. I can think of a few hulls where you can put them to use: the post-rebalance T1 Armageddon, which has five launcher slots to supplement a 375m3 drone bay; the Rattlesnake, which has four launcher slots to supplement its 400m3 drone bay; and maybe the utility slots on a Tempest or a gun-heavy Typhoon Fleet Issue (though for the Tempest, I'd probably be more inclined to fit Rapid Lights instead of Rapid Heavies, to improve anti-frigate capabilities).

"Add Reload time to DPS"

answer the question yourself.

You are not good at EFT Warrioring, are you?

When looking for a good fitting for PvE always activate the reload for the DPS under:

File => Preferences => Include reload time in DPS

RHML work fine for missions with small spawns like Damsel, Dou of Death, Silence the Informant etc. but as soon as you have to reload at least twice while there are NPC on grid you loose time.

EDIT: Maybe an Angel Extra aswell, when you focus your drones on Cruisers and RHML on BS but that is more because of low BS count and in a gray area.
