Can't figure out why I'm losing standings...

Ever since I joined my most recent corporation, I have noticed that my empire standings with the four empires have flucutated greatly. I've been in Gallente space more than anything doing some PvP, missions, the usual stuff. Now I should point out that I am not involved in factional warfare, and I do not accept missions that involve killing empire faction NPCs. That being said, I'm not sure why my standings are moving all over the place. With the Amarr Empire, it's been steadily going down since joining the corporation (though I have never killed anything but pirate NPCs). With the Minmatar, it's been going up, then going down, over and over. It's been going down steadily for the Caldari as well.

So the only thing I can think of, is that if you do anything for one empire, the others are going to automatically adjust their standings accordingly? I mean, even if you are making a point not to partake in activities against that empire? That would be pretty realistic I suppose, but being someone who tried to keep standing up between all the empires (I've cross trained everything and like to experience the different ethnic flavors once in a while :P ), it's a little alarming.

Edit: Some kind fellas in game answered this for me. Appears the latter is indeed the case, and will have to juggle between the empires to keep the standings up.

It is an entirely annoying mechanic. Courier etc. should only raise with the relevant factions. Shame.

My suggestion is to do missions, including Story Lines, for one Faction until the opposing faction will shoot at you. This happens when your effective standing is at -5.00. Then train Diplomacy (Social Skill - Rank 1 so it will train fast).

Caldari <> Gallente
Amarr <> Minmatar

Then, do missions for the "slightly" opposed faction.

Caldari <> Minmatar
Amarr <> Gallente

This will increase your standing with the KOS faction by 80% of the gain with the faction you're actually running the missions for. It will also only lower your standing with your original faction by 20% of the amount gained

For example, If I get 1.00 standing with Amarr I will also get 0.80 standing with Caldari and lose 0.20 standing with the Gallente.

Now obviously your Minmatar standing will go down by 0.50 because they don't like the Amarr (no one does) but during the first part of this you were getting 0.80 Minmatar for every 1.00 of Gallente so you have a buffer before you get into too much trouble.

I know this may be a little confusing but if you look at the Standings Tab of any faction. you'll have a better understanding of what I'm rambling about.

do the sisters of eve epic arc every 3 months and get a free boost to the empire faction of choice with no downside.
also each empire has an epic arc that you can do every 3 months for free rep gain with no downside.

Money at its root is a form of rationing. When the richest 85 people have as much wealth as the poorest 3.5 billion (50% of humanity) it is clear where the source of poverty is. http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/jan/20/trickle-down-economics-broken-promise-richest-85

SOE is great advice.

1.0 with SOE = +0.80 with Gallente, -0.025 with Caldari, -.10 with Amarr, not sure what it is off hand with Minmatar but it's on the +side.

Plus SOE seems to have nothing but Locator Agents which come in handy when people **** you off.
