Ah. So I'm far from the only one having this kind of hassle.

ReSubbed after ooh, Let's just say "a fair while" only to find I can't even hold a connection to the character customiser for more than about 60 seconds.

There are tears coursing down my cheeks, but you can't see them because I have no face...

Same issues here. Network analyst by trade, lets see if I can include some more relevant details, and maybe a GM will take notice. Or maybe not. Who knows....getting rather frustrated with them at this point.

I am in the midwestern USA.

Tranquility IP, according to Eve-Offline, is 87.237.38.200.

Running constant ping to Tranq, as well as to 8.8.8.8, (public DNS.)

Start client, sit in POS. 10-ish minutes later, I notice that I have stopped receiving packets back from Tranq, but the Public DNS ping test is still running strong. 10 or so seconds later, Socket Closed.

I attempted to announce this on comms, which are hosted in Norway, and comms crashes.

Throughout this, ping to public DNS in the US continues functioning without issue. Not a single missed packet.

Checking the test, it looks like I drop about 20 to 30 packets to Tranq from time to time. Seems random otherwise. I was not running a test to our comms server in Norway previously, but I am now running that in addition to the other two.

Additional, (second-hand,) information. I have heard reports from corp members of TERRIBLE latency and packet drops to our comms server, as well as to Eve, in the past week or two. All while other internet traffic works fine for them, and those same destinations work fine for everyone else on comms.

Will attempt to gather more information through the three simultaneous ping tests. My current suspicion is backbone problems somewhere in Europe. I have noticed far too much odd disruption, to too many varied destinations, affecting too large of a population, for it to be restricted to just CCP, or to just a single ISP. I could be wrong; I probably am. But that is my suspicion. Will post with more info when I get it. If somebody could poke a GM in this direction, that would be nice, too.

EDIT: Well in my particular case, it now appears to be with my ISP...if this is any indicator. I'm going to call them and complain, although I doubt it will do much done. Just add another ISP to the list of ones that is having problems. Trace test below.

EDIT 2: MOAR INFO!

Spoke with my carrier. I gave them the names of the offending network equipment, and the tech support rep spoke with engineers about it. The official reason is that I am in a "high demand area," and that there are projects ongoing to relieve the congestion.

As for why it started so abruptly today, and not earlier, I can only speculate that perhaps our district was re-routed, (or another area was re-routed,) further congesting the lines. They do not apparently have a date of repair yet, but I will be checking back on it frequently, and requesting a discount if it continues to affect my internet connection.

As for the rest of you who are in the US, given the state of our internet backbone, I cannot imagine that many carriers are in any different position than Frontier. It sounds like large expansion projects are currently on-going, and this COULD conceivably be causing congestion with re-routing and re-wiring.

This is all just my own personal views and opinions, of course. Take it for what it's worth.

I live in london. Managed to play yesterday without any problems pretty much for 10 hours. Started today in the morning and up to 6 o'clock didn't get a single socket closure. Now i can't stay connected for longer than 2 - 3 minutes. It's properly getting on my **** and noone from dev team seems to be interested.

May have fixed my own problem. pull up a command window (cmd)

Type

ipconfig /release [ENTER]
ipconfig /flushdns [ENTER]

go to control panel > Network & Internet > Network & Sharing Center > Change adapter settings

- right click on the adapter disable
- wait a couple seconds
- right click on the adapter and enable

Doing these steps seemed to have cleared up my issue.

I just tried that, I'll give it a go.. resetting dns & adapter couldn't hurt in any-case. I'll let you know.

Also I'm GMT -5 1:35am EST (Comcast/Michigan) & the last couple days I've been getting alot of these socket lost type disconnections. I've had about 3/4 since I got out of work 2 hours ago.. I'm a first time player, for about a week.. & didn't really have a problem with this until about 2 days ago? Whenever that last update was.

So anyways CCP Devs, might want to look into this and/or at least respond to this post (it's #1 on google for what I searched)

I already paid so I'll stick around abit, but don't expect that from every trial user... PXP

Almost same here.

I'm playing War Thunder, WoW (sorry...), Il-2 Sturmovik and Rise of Flight - everything online. There isn't any problem with those games, I can play for more, than eight hours without any tiniest problem. No lag, no disconnects, no "socket closed".

But when I go play EVE, after just two - three minutes I am getting "socket closed" error. I've tried to contact with my ISP - router and connection reseted, newly activated. It helped, my internet is going even faster as usual - but not EVE. EVE is showing me it's huge middle finger everytime, I log into game. I've looked into every possible internet option on my computer, and optimized it all. I've tried things with cmd.exe, also nothing happened. Finding?

Not my internet connection is wrong. There is something wrong with EVE code. Every single game I do play online is going brilliant, with latency lower as 25 ms, and I experience lag's only, when game updates something. Instead of telling us that we're doing something wrong, maybe you, CCP, could look into the code, instead of wasting time for creating new "exciting" wreck models for supers, doing new ships, or something that is completely unnecessary for new players.

I've tried also with creating new account and playing trial - there was the same problems as with my main. I've logged also in another house, into completely another ISP, and the problems were the same.

All the problems started with Rubicon expansion. At first it was little lag, then it grows bigger. Now I literally can't do a ****, because EVE doesn't allow me to do it. I can't pay for game I can't play.

+1

I just started having this problem, been playing for 2 years never before. Contacted my ISP and they told me that the lost data was outside their network and they couldn't do anything.

I was playing just after downtime only 20000 people on. Played for 4 hours fine. Now 46k on. I keep getting disconnected. Cant stay logged in.

This started for me right after the Rubicon 1.2 patch. Today, I can't even get through the character selection screen without the socket closed error.

I've had more socket closes in the last 2 weeks than in the 5 previous months combined. Have these rash of patches screwed with eve's wiring somehow? I live in the northwest US

I'm also receiving more than triple my old rate of Sock Disconnects since the last patch. This problem is only related to EVE, every other program/game has worked flawlessly, and it doesn't appear to be an issue with server location as when this gets bad i start pinging servers in US/EU/England and they all respond well.

It was once thought that CCP has simply been slowly changing the EVE code to be less and less forgiving in regards to packet drops.

The only thing CCP has ever really said on this issue is "It's not us, it's you." We know this is something that is specialized to EVE, just be flipping honest with the ppl paying your apparently overinflated salaries.

Northern Kentucky (AKA, the NOT redneck/hillbilly part), Time Warner is pretty much in charge of everything here (and for once isnt the problem).

Getting disconnects from EVE roughly once every 5-10 minutes, everything else works fine, though i am seeing about 10-15% higher latency with all European-based connections, so mumble/ts/minecraft, anything privately or corporately (is that a word? i dont think thats a word) based out of Europe.

Similar issue here. Logged in with 2 accounts on one pc. one account fine, the other one just died. Disconnected the failing account account and could not reconnect (Server status anknown). The other account did not show any problems...

Man, I train for certain goals and then the related skills / modules / ships get nerfed. I hate to be addicted to EVE.

Just had this as well.

2x popups saying 'socket closed'. Also noticed that I couldn't get onto the forums, Eve site. Evemon couldn't retrieve my API key, but told me that Tranquility was up.

Location: Australia
ISP: Internode (iiNet)

Rock solid on another MMO launched when Eve went down.

Eve-Offline reported Tranq was up with ~7k players in it, so about 10k players kicked off, according to my launcher half-hour before this happened.
