"This week in EVE" is a weekly overview of EVE Online related news and events and shows what is going on in EVE Online. The focus of this overview is on official news from CCP: For example, dev blogs and important forum posts by CCP developers, the ever evolving background story and upcoming events. The summary of the previous week 7/2014 can be found here. Available is also the overview 2014

  • Dark Horse presents EVE: True Stories – Issue #1 out now! - Forum discussion
    • EVE: True Stories is a comic based on a true story that happens 20,000 years in the future. Based on a popular tale that happened in the world of EVE Online, the first issue is available now from Dark Horse - all for free!

  • EVE Universe Static Data Export - Forum discussion
    • Read CCP Nobody's dev blog about the changes in the organization of the static EVE Universe data. This data contains for example the positions for all systems, planets, gates, asteroid belts and the asteroids in these belts. Originally this data was authored directly in the DB and most of the data only existed in the DB. In the new system now the data is authored in files in our source control system together with our game code.

  • Community Spotlight: Fly Reckless - Forum discussion
    • CCP Eterne presents in the long running Community Spotlight series this time the podcast "Fly Reckless". Having been in existence for nearly 6 years and with over 100 episodes, it has stood the test of time and remains a preeminent EVE podcast.   • Featured Fansite: EVE-Radio
    • CCP Gargant presents in his 'Featured Fansite' a randomly chosen EVE Fansite. This time he features the fantastic and popular radio station EVE Radio. EVE Radio is a 24/7 internet radio station, hosted by EVE players for EVE players which also has random giveaways, hosts events and provides tons of useful information that can help you in EVE Online. Tune in!

  • EVE Online: Rubicon 1.2 successfully deployed on Feb 18, 2014
    • EVE Online: Rubicon 1.2 (and following patches) has been successfully deployed on February 18. While this release might look thin with only few patch notes, it is a great step forward for the EVE Universe. With Rubicon 1.2 the organization of the static EVE Universe data was drastically changed and now it is possible to faster and more efficiently deploy patches which means that less dev time will be wasted on administrative work. Yay!

  • Upcoming changes to Macintosh minimum requirements
    • The minimum requirements to run EVE on the Macintosh will be changed later this year, probably in May or June. If you’re using a Leopard version, Snow variety or otherwise, you need to upgrade to at least Lion in the coming months.

  • The sounds of the space police
    • Woop woop

  • Sowboarding with the Devs
    • After CCP karkur's initial announcement to have a private snowboard trip before Fanfest for anyone to join in, several CCP devs showed up and will participate. Now it looks like a private 'snowboard with the devs' event right before Fanfest 2014!

  • Rubicon 1.3 - Corporation Membership cap increase
    • With Rubicon 1.3 the corporation member cap will be increased considerably by doubling the effect of all the corporation management skills in EVE. This will place the new cap at 12600 members.

  • Rubicon 1.3 Hull repair drones - a wasted effort?
    • After player concerns about the coming hull repair drones and that the development of them would be just wasted time, CCP Fozzie explains that this change doesn't include lots of work and requires only a very small amount of effort. No dev time gets wasted!

    Background story and in-game news
    • Caldari Navy announces "Octopus" Squadron courts-martial
      • The Caldari Navy has confirmed the arrest of Wing Commander Sami Okuuda. Commander Okuuda was involved in Operation Spectre in November YC115, which saw hundreds of Caldari loyal capsuleers suffering extensive combat losses; Okuuda was also involved in the failed defense of the Leviathan-class titan CN Shiigeru, which was destroyed in March last year during Operation Highlander. The Caldari Navy also confirmed the arrest and replacement of all eight of the 37th "Octopus" Squadron’s non-commissioned officers, and that court-martials for a total of more than fifty senior service personnel would be forthcoming. The Caldari Navy declined to comment rumors that Okuuda may face charges relating to the death of former Caldari Navy Admiral Visera Yanala.
