This is a problem? Your tempest sold for 1.2b or you had a sell order for 170m?

Market mechanics working in your favour.

The buyer probably just clicked on the top entry, but you were the lowest priced seller, so the first order to be filled.

So while you had a lower price, he decided (stupidly) to pay much more to you. You win, he loses and whoever put up the high price did you a favour.

Working as intended. Your buyer sorted wrong and selected a more expensive order, likely one of your competitors that you underbid a few isk. Unlike the real world, the EVE market takes a limit order and makes that person transact at that price instead of "no higher than that price."

Congrats!

See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did.

someone was drunk and tryed to buy one for 1.2 bill.
the way the eve market works is that the lowest sell order (yours) is matched with this and he gets the ship for the price he offered.

Money at its root is a form of rationing. When the richest 85 people have as much wealth as the poorest 3.5 billion (50% of humanity) it is clear where the source of poverty is. http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/jan/20/trickle-down-economics-broken-promise-richest-85

If you want to be kind, you could refund the guy.

However, I don't see the problem. It's his stupidity and/or naivete.

You see, when you create a buy order, you can actually set a price. Then EVE matches the price and range against what's already available. Anything that's cheaper than your specified buy order will be purchased right there on the spot for the price entered on the buy screen, not the price it's currently selling for! So if he's willing to pay a little more, then you get a little more. Or, if he typos an amount then GG LOL FREE MONEY FOR YOU.

Now you know how the mechanics of the market work, it shouldn't be much of a further step to figure out how this can be used to your advantage in future.

I've just been in touch with some, uh, influential people whose initials may or may not be CCP. They told me to tell you that they are looking into the shenanigans and that in the meantime, while they investigate said shenanigans, that you should send me the money so that I can insure it's safety. Quickly. And no... uh.. shenanigans.

First rule of Eve market: When you buy stuff in Eve, double check your zeroes before clicking "OK" or "Yes".

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."
