Hello there,

I've a idea for changing your name in EVE Online - you simply pay 2 plex's, same as for character transfer for example and then you got an option to change your name on EVE Online official site.

You can say 'omg this is bad idea' cuz someone will scam my corp and I can't find him anymore etc - No, don't worry. I've got solution for this as well, CCP would add simply 'former names' list as it says itself all your former names in a list.


How it would work:

# You can change your name once per year like with remap's
# You need to pay two plexes to do so.

ALSO: A FORMER NAME COULD BE USED ONCE AGAIN ONLY BY THE ACCOUNT OWNER.

Q: So if someone attacks me and then changes their name, how do i look them up? Another one: Oh no, all scamers and thieves will become unknown !!!111cry!111
A: You simply search them by their old name. If you do that, then u get an alert that he has changed his name to a new one, so you do not care about his old name anymore.
You would get something like this:

Oldest name:
Vertixen Corleone

Newest:
Corleone Vertixen

by searching on eve-kill, in game character search and dunno where else by Vertixen Corleone or any of Former Name List ppl's would get an alert saying:

Name: Corleone Vertixen
Former name/names: Vertixen Corleone, Vertixen Pro Pvper Corleone, Pro Pvp Corleone, Best Pvper Vertixen



Q: if i search their old name does their current name come up?
A: Yes, they pop out their actual names

I think that would be very good option for all of us, some of you might be bored with ur nickname, some of you maybe did not think of serious playing and creatued ur capsulers with some bad stupid names like 'blalsl293Xlz', for character baazar buyers etc, etc.

WHO'S UP FOR THIS? WRITE, COMMENT ETC.

I THINK TWO SIDES WOULD BE HAPPY - CCP MORE MONEY TO MAKE OUR GAME BETTER AND WE THAT COULD CHANGE OUR NAMES IF WE DON'T LIKE THEM ETC. THERE MIGHT BE THOUSDANS OF REASONS :)

your name, and your corp history, are very, very delicate things. if you choose to ruin it, ok, but there's no reason you should be able to just change the name of a character when that's the only thing distinguishing it from the next botminer on the list. even having a separate section isn't enough, because it wouldn't be searchable like normal names. not to mention the issues with duplicates and shrinking the already-small pool of unused and good names.

also, you already can change your name. it's called the character bazaar, and it involved buying new toons.

There should be a downside to buying a character from the character bazaar. The downside is, you get stuck with the dude's crappy name.

So, a "former names" list, huh?

So either
A) Any name a character has ever used is locked out from ever being used for a new character to keep confusion/impersonation and the grey area that is in the EULA from happening
or
B) You have to add times switched to and out of every name you change on your character, creating a ridiculous amount of effort required, with API or not, to find out if the guy your talking to is the Real john Smith, or someone who just ended up with the name after some roundabout swaps.

add those difficulties coupled with the unnecessary and gimmicky nature of the entire proposal, as well as the change in the "consequences" aspect of the game that is already horribly laughable, and this idea gets a resounding no.

not even just no, but HELL NO.

Your name is your resume. Your corp history, your name, your killboard. These are things that do not change in eve unless you sell your char and buy a new one. They are your qualifications to show that you know your stuff (or don't as the case may be), and are a very important part of any recruitment process.

And ask any recruiter to swiftly learn that accepting anyone who you can't easily track the whole/majority of their eve history is a risky business at best. Most people tend to keep their main char just for this reason. Even if you buy another char who has better skills than your first char, that char is still your "Main", simply so you can accurately show who you are and what you have done to an inquisitive recruiter.


I for one completely oppose any ability to modify or hide names, corp histories, or killboards. Recruiting is difficult enough as it is without them needing to potentially check multiple past aliases.

if i search their old name does their current name come up? what if someone else has the old name? will they come up instead?

what if i dnt have the exact lettering for their name because i forgot and i try a partial character search? does the partial name of 20 characters come up and all their aliases come up? and if they can change their name once a year, each 5 year old character can have 6 aliases...so thats 120 names i'd get from a partial search.

so no.

ppl ask for name changes quite often, and the answer is always no because names have consequences, ur reputation is bound to it.

if u dnt like ur name that much, u can start a new char rather than buying.
