What the hell? Shocked

So I've heard a lot of complaints about the "loot spew" in the hacking mini-game. Finally got around to trying it myself just now. OMFG!

Who the heck thought this was a good idea? The hacking game was silly, and the loot spew was, well, just spew. Seriously not up the standards of this game. Now I know what all the complaints are about.. Add my voice to the cacophony! What a complete waste of time.

Seriously, CCP. I want that time back. Please credit my clone for the life energy expended by raging at the sheer crapfest of this horrible game mechanic!

Did it once, never again.

Thanks for listening.....

May I have your stuff?

I hate complaining but . . . I'm going to complain.

Inb4 lock for ranting, as all this does is complain without giving any constructive feedback.

I think he means that the entire mini-game is dumb, and should be thrown out...Sounds constructive to me.

It rewards knowledge, preparation and hand-eye co-ordination.
Frankly, more of the game should do the same.

OK, the twitchy part I get.

The knowledge and preparation part not so much. Other than the scanning skills, which you need for the game as a whole, what am I supposed to know? And what am I supposed to prepare for? The mini-game is super simple, and the loot spew is basically a roulette wheel. I guess the x-box/ play station crowd have an advantage there, but I didn't think Eve was that kind of game.

Anyway, I'm done complaining. For those that enjoy it, have fun! Me, I'm going back to commune with my lovely, precious Veldspar....

The spew is there to distract you.

The minigame is turn based so you can literally play turn, check d-scan, review overview, play turn check d-scan, review overview.

Also all valuables are in parts + data (both), and materials (relics), and you can count down how many you've got left based on your cargo scan. All I ever lose is a bit of T2 salvage if there is a screen full of salvage on the cargo scan.

they should use the loot spew mechanic for acces to your hangar. first you hack, then spew.

it's a silly mechanic that reminds me of the 80's.

C'mon, this is Eve! You're supposed to do these things no matter what you are doing. I mean, seriously. X

You figure out what the cans contain and which spew cans you should go for.

It only looks like a roulette wheel because you haven't studied the contents and their distribution in advance.

And the way you're thinking about it shows why you don't like it, because you're not really thinking about it. There is, indeed, preparation. Cargo scanning the containers for example to find the decent stuff before hacking them, and knowing what kind of loot is going to appear in what kind of mini-container comes out.

There is actual work involved for the reward now, as opposed to before when it was just click a module and wait. Honestly, if it wasn't for loot spew, hacking would be way too boring for me and I'd never do it.

Well mostly all I need do is glance at my empty local. However I do appreciate that however tiresome it may seem to someone in highsec, not only is the miniprof well balanced for commitment at the moment the reward pops out, the other part of the game delays pilots sufficiently so that engagement can occur, and its -far less boring- than watching a salvager cycle.

It also does that charming thing that bejeweled does where sometimes it pretty much plays itself. (ie my usual strategy is to bee-line to the other side of the hacking map, but sometimes the core is directly on that path).

I actually think its a very good minigame design in the context of EVE, no matter how polarized by it people are.

Everyone hated this mechanic. Everyone.

But in true EVE fashion all those haters turn around and jump all over someone who actually makes a thread about it.

It's like CCP makes you check a little box in which you promise to be contrary in the forum no matter what your real feelings are. You people never cease to amaze me. Except for Tippia of course. Look up contrary in any online dictionary and there's a link to his posts in lieu of a definition.

This. It's rare (basically unheard of) that I agree with Tippia, but the spew itself isn't terrible.

The issue is that with the right methods you can solo cherry pick the spew. And you are not rewarded for working with someone else. If every can was worth '1000' as an argument. And the cherry pick can was worth '2000'. Then it's worth having a friend along, because the bulk of the value is in the generic cans and the special bonuses are just a little more.

Instead most cans are worth '0'. Which is not a rewarding game mechanic.

hi. I fixed your post for you.

Note that only do I get a lot of cans myself, I open up my erstwhile enemies ships and have a look inside them too. It is not uncommon for a probe, heron or a magnate to have 90m isk of stuff inside it when it gets to me.

I know of only 1 other that even cherry picks here, and I am entirely yet to understand -why- as he will take 1 ruin and 1 of the yellow core cans, and then leave a perfectly good ruin with 25m isk of t2 salvage in it.

As when I want them gone, I want them gone, I vacuum everything, and to be honest, often times the t1 salvage which comes in giant piles is non trivially valuable. I've sold 500m of it at end of the month sometimes, and its tiny stuff.
