I'll echo the others in telling you to find a player corp.

I'll add a caveat too. Don't feel tied down to the corp you join. Find one that's right for you.

"Verily, I have often laughed at the weaklings who thought themselves good because they had no claws."

One of ours, ten of theirs.

Best Meltdown Ever.

OP - yes, I've been in your situation and I loved it. My average game lasts 1 year. BF2, ET:QW, WIC etc etc. I got tired of mastering a game in a few months and then getting bored 8 months later or watching the servers die as people moved on to new games.

I wanted a game that is mostly, a 2nd life.

Could not help but notice this:

"Annoyingly, one skill leads to another and before you know it, you're completely lost and it seems like it will take forever to even pilot a T2 frigate."

A tech two frigate is actually quite an amazing thing - and it should take you some time to get there. Until you have a decent amount of experience in the game, all a T2 frigate is going to do for you is take what would be about 3-5 million in loss of a frigate (ship + modules) to about 50 million (ship + modules).

For real, though - I will echo all the posts above mine. FIND A CORP. Soloing eve is like soloing Facebook, and if you are looking at rookie chat to provide some fun and distraction from a long trip through empire space, you are just going to be sadly disappointed.

Feel free to join my corp's public channel - "crazybirdpub" - just click on the chat channels button in the neocom. Always plenty of us on to talk with.

Fly safe!

2-3 years down the line you are still training skills and it is almost endless... that's the beauty of it. Within a couple of months your training will be very broad and your paths to specialization will become more manageable. Take your time. You could opt to dump money into PLEX and perhaps even a high SP character from the bazaar, but I don't recommend it while you still have so much more to learn.

The fun is always in player interaction. Again, join a corp. Might take a few tries untill you find the right one, that's no shame. Right now the right corp for you would be one that supports new pilots, and easies their entry into PVP. Technically you can already kill 100m blockade runners in a frigate solo and keep your ship, you just don't know how yet. Hint: you need to scan them out at 5 degrees when they fiddle with a customs office, quickly warp there and warp-scramble the target. Multiple scrams come recommended.

I'd say get blown up a couple of times untill you find a talkative, friendly pirate willing to share his knowledge, or seek a corp that focusses on low-SP PVP and piracy.
