Reconnecting to more than 5 lost drones?

So, lets say i've dropped 5 drones, abandoned them, and then dropped another 5 drones and abandoned them too.

When i click "reconnect to lost drones", what will happen (i am at work, so no: can't just login and test)

Will i randomly get 5? Will it outright fail? And can i select which group of drones to reconnect to my clicking them in space?

In case anyone cares, you reconnect randomly to 5 drones.

You are reconnecting to the five closest drones, it isn't random.

my first thought reading this is how does it apply to bandwidth limitations. back in the days before bandwidth I remember someone dropping a bunch of drones with a domi or w/e and then scooping and redeploying them in another ship for shenanigans.
