From repeat offenders, sure, but from what I've seen there's always new people who need to be prodded about the rules. They often do not break them again after being reprimanded. So... either some people are recycling alts to troll more effectively (does anyone actually spend that much effort?), or the mails would be inefficient long-term.

This has given me an idea of something I need to try, though.

So... correct me if I am wrong here, but what I am seeing is "never not report".

So long as you're reporting actual rulebreaking, yes, never not report. Abusing the report system with false reports has itsn own penalties.

It would be great if we could give feedback on reports of the kind "no, that's not an offense, leave it be," but that's not a feature that exists. I wouldn't worry about it too much. I've only seen a couple of people ever get in trouble for their reports, and it was not a case of "gray area" but rather clear abuse. After all, it's the ISD's job to discern gray cases. Making us do our jobs is just... well... expected.

Biggest issue as luck would have it are the professional forum trolls being allowed to keep trolling until the thread becomes locked and trolls keeps posting.

If a thread gets locked for trolling then someone should be on a forum vacation.

I must be f'd in the head, because I love this community. Eve-o GD is a place for discussion, trolling, and a good dose of HTFU. If you want informative try the subforums, lots of good stuff in there.

You want to see a truly toxic community? Check out League of Legends. The Eve community is filled with gentleman and scholars compared to that cesspit.


Also, to the guy who said reddit and informative in the same sentence. LOL. Reddit is just f'in awful bro. It is, quite literally, the lowest common denominator when it comes to forum IQ. Hth.

Want more activity in Eve-o? Real simple. Stop with the over the top censorship and moderation and people will start posting here again. Until that time, Eve players will continue to post in forums that are less draconian in terms of moderation.

This. Nobody gives a **** about the GUI or how topics are organized or what formatting tools we can use.

Also, maybe allowing content and direct links to limited, trusted sites like Dotlan and zkillboard?
Speaking of which, no killmails - well I guess only morons would write battle reports here instead of Failheap/EN24/Mittani/Kugu, right? Because a battle report without a linkey to see what died isn't really much of a battle report now, is it?

That is spot on.

There is something else. This forum is mainly used for in game politics and meta game actions, and literally infested from nullsec alts. No matter if your idea/topic/discussion is good or bad. As soon as you post, you'll get scanned from some big alliance pet. If your topic/idea/post happens to be bad for big alliances lords, your thread get immediately reported by the pet to their masters. Next thing you know is your thread get infested by null sec trolls, derailing the discussion and such.

I think the only real solution to this plague is to implement new rules for forum moderation, but that would imply a Meta Game war between CCP and big null sec alliances. And since CCP is scared from Null Sec alliances, that's not gonna happen. So yeah, "deal with it".

having played numerous MMO's and other assorted online games i have noticed that however popular a game is, the forum users is always but a small number of the overall game users. So many ppl simply do not log into the forums, or read them, or even bother to recognise them just because, they dont want too, need to.

Even the pretty hardcore limited audience flight sim i used to play had a forum that one might consider as dead, not because the game had no players, it always had servers running and players online, but even the most avid flight sim fan isnt necessarily a forum goer even if its about the ultra genre specific of a ww2 flight sim.

Pretty safe to say the same counts for Eve too, 50k ppl playing the game may equate to merely 500 or less on the forums

^ This. This. 1000x this. First thing I do when I hit Eve-o is check the locked posts, as more often than not these are the most entertaining posts to read.

A forum without bluster isn't a forum worth reading imo. All that is allowed on Eve-o any more is lame ass "buff/nerf hisec/nullsec" and "waaaahh WIS" threads. I sorely miss the GD of my Eve youth.
