Ahoy, I know this has been asked a million times, but there's still a few concerns I personally have.

I'm currently living in Blood Raider space and have been using an Oracle fitted with beams to rat. It's great and get's the job done extremely well. 100km optimal + 40k falloff with Standard charges. It's pretty great on DPS as well. I've then got a sentry domi on assist.

I'm EXTREMELY interested in trying out projectiles though, but I keep hearing that they're only good on paper and that the application of their DPS is rather lacking because they fight in falloff range instead of optimal. This worries me because the Oracle is super beast and it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to downgrade.

My long term goal is to get into a Marauder, and a big worry of mine is if/when I move space I don't want to be stuck in a Marauder that only does one damage type like the Kronos or Paladin. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Uhmmmm... not for nuthin, but.. why don't you just BUY a hull and fit it to try? You may like it? If you don't dig it, just strip it and sell it off or contract it.

Just don't forget, you're already used to an Oracle with high range, so i would assume your skills in that avenue are fairly decent. Getting started in another field will put ur skills back at the bottom, not to mention a different fighting style all together. So just give something new a fair chance. You never know...

I started out flying Minmatar ships, and later switched to Amarr. I now run L4 missions for cash in a Paladin, so I think I can speak to what you're asking about from the other side.

Projectiles _do_ live in falloff range, that's true. But they can also switch damage types as needed, which is really nice. If I recall correctly they also track better than lasers.

Lasers on the other hand live in optimal. I mean they barely even HAVE fall-off, so if you don't stay on top of your crystal switches, you can end up doing no damage at all! Pulses with Scorch crystals changes that a bit, but T2 ammo isn't exactly a measure of a weapon class.

Hybrids are half optimal/half falloff as well, so unless you're using lasers, part of your damage exists in falloff range, that's just the facts.

I ended up preferring the adaptable optimal range of lasers, and so far I haven't found myself regretting doing a single damage type in missions.

Ty for the replies, I've got decent enough support skills so I figure I'll give a tornado a try and see how it goes. If I don't like it, no harm no foul. Just a few days in training, I can live with that.

Thanks again!

Keep in mind that if you are going from T2 lasers to half trained large arty, you may be underwhelmed.
