As a side note, but still related to the topic, it's refreshing to see people actually admitting to their own faults instead of the usual alpha snobbery that occurs on the forums. (and in game, for that matter) Always easier to point out "fault" in others, much harder to look at yourself and your own.

I'm really interested to see how many "veterans" put out some of their own dirty laundry. Blink

C'mon foks, "teach us" a few things.

Don't get to comfortable flying around in pods in highsec. You can still smartbomb there. This is how I died for the very first time in my EVE career. I didn't even know I died. Until I spawned in station mid warp. vOv

Actually, I kinda knew about this already- although I was smartbombing in missions is how I found out and someone pointed out to me that if I hit a structure or something I could get CONCORDed, so I promptly quit doing it in hisec.

Took me a bit to learn the "safety" features, too. I've done a lot of sheer "stupid" things too, but mainly out of ignorance, which is what I think a lot of people get confused sometimes. (one you knowledge of, the other you don't) Forgetting to load the right sort of ammo, not activating hardeners, piloting a ship carelessly, etc. Some of it was intentional- but oftentimes it was completely unintentional.

I think pretty much anyone who's been in game longer than a day has some experience with it- At least, I'm pretty sure no one was born into a pod "perfect" in this game.

TL;DR If you didn't read the entire post perhaps you're probably ADHD. (seek help)

When I was a noob, I was in a battle with wartargets with two of my corpmates. Was so fixated on the two targets, failed to realize that a neutral Oneiros had gone suspect and was repping them. Also didn't consume the drugs I had brought with me. Also forgot to use the ECM drones to save my ass when we all started dying. Mistakes were made. Also, that happened yesterday.

Tunnel vision! I still get that and it still causes me to lose ships.

True dat. The fight gets so intense you lose your senses- lots of people tend to ramble on about "How they would have done this, or that" but the bottom line is when you're in the thick of battle and the adrenaline starts pumping, you're really at the whim of the situation. Reaction timing gets better with experience- but even then you're not truly going to "win" every time.

Oh so many stupid things in my first year, reprocessing instead of repackaging (I still do that sometimes and the items get more and more expensive too), barely training anything at all, mining in an untanked hulk one jump from Jita (it actually survived those three kestrels somehow). After that last gank attempt I decided to move back to Gallente space. I loaded all of my worldly possessions into a Badger I, including a PLEX, and flew through Uedama. I learned what an alpha Tempest was that day.

Heck, I remember when the Tormentor was a rookie mining ship.

I remember using it for that, too.

i came to eve as a trader and within a month i had amassed 3 million zydrine spread out over a region of losec stations. i trained up for a bestower and set off collecting it from the stations, having never played eve or talked to anyone in eve i set off oblivious of what the different coloured boxes with names i could not say meant. i managed to get round 4 stations and collect just over a million zydrine in the last station, when undocking i found 5 big ships in my way, my pc lagged out and i was back at my home station. as i sat wondering what had happened i got a mail from some very happy pirates wanting to know if their services were upto speck, they enclosed 30 questions that i filled in and sent back. i got an invite to a chat channel where i explained about the other 2 million zydrine sitting in the station and they said come on back we wont pop you.............

I went to sell a deadspace mod, and instead bought one accidentally.

Oh, I perfectly understand, Hal Morsh — a mission like this requires courage, skill, and heroism… qualities you are clearly lacking. Have you forgotten you're one of the bloody immortals!?

HAHAHA!! well, reading thru some of these writings I tried to recall something stupid or a boo boo I commited. Well it's hard to pinpoint any one particular thing but I just hafta say we all learn thru our mistakes and screw ups don't we?? I just remember mining the first few days and the corp I was in at that time was wardecced. My corp CEO had this idea of using bantams to use to try to get away from the war dec, well needless to say I left that corp in a hurry.

Since then I have learned a LOT and hopefully I can help others in the future, now about that last time........

Trained straight into a Raven when i started without any real support skills at all. The word Battleship was all i cared for. Undocked and warped into my first level 4 mission in high spirits.

That Level 4 was a drone mission with a big mother drone that spawned new waves every 25%. So basically you shoot it until a wave spawns and then stop to kill the wave. I was, of course, totally oblivious to this information and furiously fired everything i got at the mother drone without stopping.

I think it was when the second wave spawned that i realized something was terribly wrong. Unable to kill the scram ships due to no painter or any useful drone or missile support skills i gawked in horror at my monitor while those tiny ***** chewed up my first Raven.

Good read so far. For me it was getting can flipped while mining in my Exequror, it was only a little frigate, thought my drones could take him lol. Podded myself back to empire, forgot to update my clone, took a shortcut through lowsec and lost mining barge 5 to a disco hyperion. Then I retrained mining barge 5. At one point I also took my duel tanked thorax with mixed guns into lowsec for a little belt ratting, naturally that didn't end well. That was all in the first months.

In the years since then, I've gotten really drunk and engaged a mega on a gate in lowsec while in my hurricane (stupid, but I did get the kill, lost the cane though). Challenged a wartarget to a duel, my lolfit drake v his mega. Challenged another guy to a duel while in my lolfit duel tanked xl-asb myrmidon. Challenged a guy to a duel, burned out the launchers on my cyclone and lost a faction bc kill, then challenged him to a duel again while in the same fit without noticing it was him and that he was in a ship that could easily take mine. I'm sure there's more I've forgotten.

One of the funniest things I've seen other newbs do was bring a small mining fleet into Oulley (a pipe system between a regional high sec hub and the gallente/caldari warzone) complete with Orca, 2 procurers and a mega and kestrel for defense. They parked themselves in a belt at zero with a -10 pirate in local. Called in some blues to help and one of my blue buddies was freaking out that it was bait and that the orca was going to pop a couple of t3's or light a cyno or something. The orca and mega died in fire, the procurers got out and the kestrel burned out and kept shooting my proteus till I left grid lol.

When I was still new I never knew you can warp to zero on gates. I always autopiloted myself all throughout highsec since I thought it was the only way to jump through gates. I did that for the entire SoE Arc without even AFK'ing while travelling around.

For the first 3 weeks i thought i needed a probe launcher to launch my drones. I mined in my venture with a probe launcher equipped.

When I got my first Vengence, I flew it into lowsec.

I decided to take a lunch break and left my ship at a wormhole, while I made a sandwich.

I came back half an hour later to find myself in Amarr, wondering how I had got there, and why I was missing my Vengeance.

Oh Yes, I nearly forgot. I used a Bestowed as a combat ship, and wondered why It had such a big cargo hold.

I have two personal friends who joined Eve this week. I've been helping them out to learn the basics and to find everything they need. The usual stuff like finding things for sale on Eve-Central, guidelines for setting up an overview and whatnot.

Today, they both decided, 2nd week in game, that they wanted to build a station in Nullsec. Both of them being very sure that is what they wanted to focus on. They looked on their map for a system that didn't have a lot of pod kills or ships destroyed, and I helped them come up with a flight plan to minimize running into gatecamps.

The first fellow, flew right into a system with a gate camping fleet. Not knowing what to do when being targeted, I heard him spout about 20 seconds of profanity before he realized his pod was being targed. The second, he came in anyway in a T1 Cruiser to try and fight a Battlecruiser with T2 weapons.

I checked with them:
-No warp core stabilizer
-They were popped in a system that had a marker for podkills in the previous hour
-No MicroWarpDrive in case they needed to scram back to the gate
-No podsaver tactics practiced.

It's when they learned that there are pilots who will pod you just for existing, which has bummed them a lot. Yes, some tears have been shed, but that is needed to become hardened.

My first ever combat fit was a Rifter with a gun, a missile launcher, a laser, and a railgun all packed onto the same ship. Oops

Look at my sig, my sig is amazing

I used a Coercer to mine, for two weeks! I was so proud for mining 50M worth of ores... sigh.
