So go ahead and call me a noob here.....but I honestly didnt pay much attention to the eula and all that.

Ive noticed several conversations involving systems filled with "bots" and several websights that claim to make eve bots for people to use to auto mine and such.

my question is this....is using a "bot" against the rules? and if so what punishment could be recieved by one who is confirmed as using one?

Some of these folk use ISBoxer which allows them to control multiple accounts. This is not technically illegal.

Edit: Why ISBoxer is allowed and other forms of automation are not, I have no idea.

Blow their ships up, loot them, then report the pilots to CCP.

I support the New Order and CODE. alliance. www.minerbumping.com

Simple

Because ISBoxer isnt automation.

Buy it, undock and do nothing with you 10 accounts....result: nothing will happen.

Automation means the client will do stuff WITHOUT human interaction.
As ISBoxer does nothing unless YOU order it to do it, it is not Automation.

But heh...sorry that you are just mad about it because you dont use ISB.

Disclaimer: I have never and arent currently using ISB as I never needed it.

No.

Permaban on ALL your accounts.

Be name and shame by devs and players.

But really, you could just have re-read the EULA or used common sense (name me any other game that allows botting).

While there may be bots in nullsec, just like there are everywhere else, 99% of those claims are probably propaganda, the metagame in Eve is often as important. if not more so, as shooting people in the face.

CCP take botting seriously, if you find one, kill it with fire, and then report it for good measure.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Botting can be a pretty sensitive topic around here.

Players will often call anything they don't like a bot, including things as simple as a G-15 macro, the already mentioned ISBoxer, or even some guy AFK mining. They can be safely ignored.

Who you don't ignore is CCP. There are plenty of DEV blogs talking about what is kosher and what isn't. Though it can be boiled down to, "if you need to ask, then you probably shouldn't be doing it".

Unlike most MMOs, the economy in this game is very delicate. So CCP cracks down hard and mercilessly on people using automated programs to screw it up for everyone else. Botting and unofficial RMT will get you banned or a negative wallet really quick.

This.

A. I think 90% of the botting claims are made by the enemy of said owner of the system as propaganda in their "war".

B. I think the distribution of bots is actually more skewed towards high-sec if you look at bots in general (so including market bots etc.)

Luckily, CCP has a very big and badass banhammer and don't mind striking it often against bots.

Well, according to CCP it doesn't count as an advantage over normal gameplay, even though it clearly is.

True.

Although ISB is just the exact same thing as this here.

Only difference is that the picture is using the "hardware version" and ISBoxer is using the "software version"
