venturing to null

So I'm getting ready to fly my first ships out to null sec to start learning how to survive in the real eve. My attempts to join a null sec corp just got most of my assets stolen, "welcome to new eden" so I thought **** it I'm just gonna fly out there.

For my various expeditions I'm planning on flying some condors and corax as my skills are mostly in cal and missiles. I was thinking on day 10 about flying a cruiser or battlecruiser out there.
My goals are to learn some null sec mechanics, fight (and probably loose) some PvP, maybe make some aquintences with a few null sec corps, maybe pirate some miners or something if I can get lucky, probably die to a gate camp and try to have some fun to forget about my losses.

It seems hard to get into a null sec corp, most corps don't want rookies I guess. So my plan is to learn what I can and try to have some fun. !y long term goal is to get behind the controls of my chimera and fly her around null sec.

Is this a good way of venturing out into null? I feel like I need a second opinion. Any useful advice is greatly appreciated.
Yeah I'm a scrub, but if scrubs don't ask questions in a game like eve they will never make it out of high sec.

Good for you. Go for it!

The reason the Nul sec alliances dont like taking new players is because the assumption is that you're a player for their warring faction who has started a new account specifically to infiltrate and spy/awox them.

But just flying out there and showing a good attitude may well ge tyou noticed and picked up.

However, the ship of choice for exploring Nul is an Interceptor. They dont take that long to train for and have the fairly unique ability (Also T3's) of being immune to interdiction bubbles.

Bubbles will be your main cause of death in nul.

Also, something to do before you set out on your adventure is: Look up 'Estel Arador' as a free source of jump clones.

You can keep a clone in Hisec with training implants, and jump into an implant free clone for your adventures.

Inty's are bubble immune, Pods are not :(

One thing to note that I find there a preference in null sec for gunnery/drone armour tanked ships which is annoying considering that I've also invested heavily in missiles and shield tanked ships.

As your about a year old that suggests you have a good level of skills so I'd advise training up either logi, interdictor or interceptor skills as they're very popular for null sec alliances. Having access to popular ships will mean they're more likely to take you on.

Also having covert ops ships and cloak is another very useful thing as it allows you to get around eve much more safely.

Thanks for the tips ovv. Null sec is a pretty scary place for a scrub, but I'm nearing my skill set for my chimera and need to learn about the galaxy before I even consider bringing it out there. I'll start training for an interceptor asap. Though I think the first few ships o take out will be t1 so I don't loose too much money right off the bat, after I got scammed I had no money and very little means of making it. Luckily I had a retriever I forgot about so I'm mining to get some isk for these expeditions. I have flown through low sec before and the amount of bubbles was surprising, luckily no one was around to pop me.

Free clones are always good as I have about 14mil skill points and don't want to loose those!
Thanks again.

I recommend to train for an interceptor.

Due to it being nullified you can travel through 0 and look for space that seems suitable and scout potential routes for bringing non-nullified ships into 0. (or you just outsource that part, but that costs)

I'd also use warp core stabs for the scouting part. No use being nullified but pointed.

As bubbled gate-camps could otherwise make your stay in 0 quite a short one.

So who scammed you? Post it here so other new players can avoid the mistake.

Also, there are no bubbles in Low only Nul. Do you mean gate camps?

It was the goons. Berate me if you wish, I thought the goons would be a good place for a rookie to learn what with their history and all. A recruiter got in contact with me and seemed like a pretty good guy. Mistakes were made, lessons were learned.

Needless to say, I wouldn't recommend applying to any goonswarm corp.

Yea figured!

All that 'Update your Clone.' and 'Dont fly what you cant afford to lose.' malarky is all very well...

But the no.1 rule in EVE is:

Dont give money to Goons!

Don't worry High-Sec is more dangerous. Just grab an interceptor and you're pretty much invulnerable to most but the quickest of targeting.

Problem with most 0.0 corps if you are a new player is you are either a spy or you're not going to be able to fly much in the way of alliance ships.

If you want to fly around in 0.0 just train for a interceptor and fly around or grab a load of frigates and lose some fighting. This way you will learn how to pvp and get over the "Oh noes I can't lose my ship".

0.0 is fun but it's not for everybody.

Interesting, why is high sec more dangerous then? I'm sure that there are some drawbacks to the interceptor, I'm assuming that it isn't the best combat vessel and more of a scout, and well....interceptor. I don't just want to visit, I also want to get into some fights.

It's more of a perception of danger, I've spent 90% of my EVE life in 0.0 so I feel pretty comfortable there, where when I travel to high-sec you can still get killed but in ways that are different to 0.0 so there is always a wariness factor.

Tbh getting to 0.0 is half the battle but you will lose lots of ships getting there and staying there, I mention an interceptor because

a: not much is going to catch you
b: it's semi cheap (maybe not for a new new player)
c: it's a ship that makes the 0.0 ratters start worrying.

If you are really new just get a load of frigates and have fun attacking everything. Once you stop worrying about losing ships 0.0 is much better to live in.

Also look at Providence as that's where I started in 0.0 and at least then they were friendly towards new guy apps.

p.s if you have the odd question just drop me a message in game, if I have the time I will answer.

All solid advice here.

Only got one question back. What are you intend to do with the Chimera? As solo capitals arent the smartest thing to do.

Highsec can be more dangerous than null, because
1) There are much more players. If 3% of 100 players in a system want to kill you, that's still one more than 100% of the 2 players in a null-sec system.
2) People are more careless - if you're as paranoid in high as people are in null, you will never get ganked in high, but almost everyone lets his guard down in high.

As for interceptors: yes, they have drawbacks. They are very fast and good at not getting hit, but don't have the firepower to kill much themselves, except other interceptors. They can even have trouble beating T1 frigates. Their role is to tackle, to prevent a target from warping away, so that the rest of the fleet can arrive and kill it.
Because of that, people may very well flee from you, as they'll fear that you want to hold them until your 20 friends from 2 systems away come join you ;)

If you want to go to null, you should also learn how to use the star map. Show information about how much people are in each system and the number of kill, to try and avoid gate-camps. The most dangerous part will be getting in and especially out of null. Once you are in there, it's mostly empty.

And go join an agony class to learn about null-sec and have your first roam where you'll shoot (and kill) stuff there:

I intend to do a lot with it, once I figure out more about chow to use a capital. The chimera is my favorite ship I just want to fly it the best I can. I don't plan on undocking the thing until I'm in a corp and understand null sec. Then I'll probably use it in fleets.

Id put the idea of a Chimmy on the back burner for a while if I were you.
You cant just fly them gate to gate around nullsec.

Well. Carriers are quite limited because they are capitals. You can rat in them but personally wouldnt advice it as cheaper and quicker ships can do the same. They are good for fleet PvP, although your specific choice isnt used as much compared to the armor type carriers.

And personal opinion:

A. You have the right attitude but prioritized wrong. I would have gone for learning null first (aka training interceptors and other subcaps) first over dedicating alm training on a capital.

B. I would highly recommend you double check your skill levels as 5 months for good carrier is on the very very low side. To be at least 50% capable of flying it, you are looking at having approx 15 mil SP and that is with very focused carrier training.

C. If you want to be a marginally useful carrier pilot...train Archon or Thanatos.

the inty is to scout for a place where you think you could be succesful.

After you got to know the area where you want to operate in in the future, then you can consider what and how to bring to this area.

my first time in null was on my first trial account in a noob ship, I just picked a system as far away as I could and started flying there. I made it pretty deep and only died because I stopped to watch some other players fighting. my second null death was pretty stupid, so what if a few neutrals just jumped in there are loads of blues! my third null death was also pretty stupid, I was in an interceptor and landed in a bubble and said whatever I'm burning for the gate. I made it to the gate and bounced off out of jump range, where I was then killed.

null is just like space, most of it is empty
